I am getting the worst connection to international services at the moment.
It is such a pain. I cannot play any internationally hosted online games, or online games which require a Steam logon as I keep dropping off Steam.

MTR tests:

http://pastebin.com/raw/k4SWxxyk

The first one is to some random TS server which is hosted in the UK.
The second one is to a RuneScape server hosted in Cambridge.
The third one is to a RuneScape server hosted in Germany.
The fourth one is to my mail provider which seems to be hosted in the USA.

It seems like a problem on Seacom, because the first hop I see in each of my MTR tests that has got severe packet loss is a Seacom address.

Is this affecting anyone else on Cool Ideas or other ISP's using Seacom?

Thanks.

This was three days ago. What is wrong with them?

EDIT: I read the estimated repair window...

What I don't understand is that my connection was fine on the 18th of October. It was only after my area dropped late at night on the 18th, and came back online yesterday (19th) at about 4:30PM that this started happening to me.

Have you restarted your CPE yet? Swith it off for at least 5 minutes, then switch it on again.

Only issue I have been having is that they had a loop in their DNS servers for Google based services but it looks like it has been resolved. I will keep eyes on it.

All international is slow. Have you tried downloading a Windows update? Well, dont!!!

I just got home. Restarted the CPE, but the packet loss is still there.

It's not really slowness that would bother me this much. It is the packet loss that causes my Steam to continuously drop offline that is really infuriating.

Fluttershy have you dropped us a mail? Seacom is doing some repairs but we havent seen any affect (as yet), we can try and reroute via our other upstream but need something to go by. if you don't come right with support drop me a mail directly on paul at cisp.co.za I am always around to help. We also just upgraded our national ring but that should improve things if anything.

EDIT: In the interim I have rolled back a route change we did around the same time, will you test and let me know.

Hi Paul :)

I did send an email to support last night before I went to sleep, no response there.
The person I spoke with on the phone told me that they would monitor my connection throughout the day and act accordingly. But I kind of already know what the problem is.

I am doing more MTR tests now, and my international latency is a tad higher than what it usually is but I don't see any packet loss now to international servers, and my Steam has stopped dropping which is fantastic.

I will follow up on your ticket for you, drop me a mail with the MTR and I will see if there is anything I can do. The higher international may be Seacom relative.
