Hey all,

So I got my TP Link router today and checked everything on xbox live, but it says my NAT is strict.

How do I get my NAT open? I have the TP Link TL-WR840N

Alternatively I would say do a firmware update on the router

if it requires a static ip input then it should have a dynamic ip address number now you port forward to the ip of the router if you running a modem with the fibre that is in the wall "i have seen a fibre installation"

anyway go to http://portchecker.co/canyouseeme or http://www.canyouseeme.org type in your ports you want to see if they are open

I got a Netgear N300 (?) to serve as my main router. Disable everything on your ISP router (firewall, DHCP, wifi etc.), assign a static IP on the Netgear, place it in the DMZ of your ISP router, and let the Netgear take care of everything (firewall, DHCP, wifi etc.). Enable UPnP on the Netgear and you should get an open NAT...

i opened the DMZ on my DSL Router after a few weeks a virus got into my router "Reset it twice" cleaned! not opening DMZ again
it was opening a SCAM Site everytime you use google or open a webpage on a pc or Smartphone opening DMZ exposes your router to hackers

Not sure if I understand what you're trying to say, but it sounds like you're not doing something right. The only thing that should be in the DMZ is your secondary router. The secondary router should be responsible for securing your network and should have the firewall etc. enabled. All your devices should connect to the secondary router, NOT the primary one...

im talking bout when i opened the DMZ zone on my DSL Router Aztech 700WR-3G

Why bother putting another router into the routers DMZ when you can just use the router as your primary in the first place?

We have tons of those routers out there with no issues using XBOX live, have you tried the upnp as well as a firmware update?

Hi there.

Upnp is enabled. Will try to update my router once I get my internet back :)

An alternative solution: Cool Ideas states on their FAQ that you can simply use your own router instead of the one that they provide to you (with the only requirement being that the router must have a WAN port).

If your fibre provider is Vumatel, you should be sorted by just setting the WAN mode to DHCP. For the other providers, you'll need to put the WAN mode to PPPoE and ask Cool Ideas for the PPPoE login credentials.

If and when Openserve rolls out to my area (I'm sadly just outside the Rondebosch roll-out area), this will be the route that I take -- the fact that Cool Ideas allows this is, in my books, a strong selling point.

There shouldn't be a reason you can't use our router, have you tried the port forwards? Alternatively log it with us on [email protected] and someone will assist.

Hi there. I tried port forwarding, but instructions tell me to make a static address, but I have no idea wher to do that in the settings or what to set my static address as.

Give your xbox a static address, either in the network settings of the xbox or on the router by reserving it's IP, forward ports to the xbox static IP then.

Okay, will give that a try and will message if it works :)

Would I need to do the same on my PS4 as well?

If your PS4 isn't having any issues then don't worry about it.

Hi there.

Bit if a noob question, but where do I go to give my xbox a static address? I know the place would be different on every router, but is there any specific option I should look for?

Also, do I have to take ip address that shows on my Xbox under settings?
