How is the difference between CISP 300Mbps Openserve and 500Mbps Openserve only R20, but looking at your parent company Afrihost there's a R200 difference?

Moving from 500Mbps to 300Mbps wouldn't make much difference to our household, but neither would saving R24.
Saving R180 would be nice although I'd need to move ISPs.

Hi there, thank you for reaching out.
Unfortunately I can't comment on pricing, as this is a support forum.

Following on from the Cool Ideas Feedback thread but in the correct section.

This is the history of the price changes since the last Openserve speed increase which resulted in the Openserve 300Mbps package

300Mbps pricing / 500Mbps pricing
April 2023 : Cool Ideas R1322/R1459 | Afrihost R1217/R1397
April 2024 : Cool Ideas R1369/R1389 | Afrihost R1217/R1397
April 2025 : Cool Ideas R1403/R1427 | Afrihost R1247/R1447

So while the 300Mbps-500Mbps difference has varied between R180 and R200 for Afrihost, the difference on CI has shrunk from R137 to R24.

If I downgraded to the 300Mbps and stayed on CI I wouldn't even be able to buy an extra Clover 1L milk, but changing to Afrihost would cover my Spotify and PC gamepass.

@PBCool @TheRoDent I assume you guys have more information on this? What is the reasoning behind this?

My Question for a Long Time: Why is the DFA Parkview Pricing So Much Higher Than the FrogFoot Parkview Pricing?
I’ve been wondering for a while why the pricing for DFA Parkview is so much higher compared to FrogFoot Parkview. I know they’re different, but in many ways, they are “same-same” – it’s essentially the same fibre infrastructure. The only difference seems to be that CISP picks up the fibre directly from DFA rather than getting it through DFA to FrogFoot.

What I don’t quite understand is why you can simply switch from DFA to FrogFoot at the same address by just changing the ONT and save a significant amount of money. It’s essentially the same fibre, but the pricing difference is huge.

It makes me wonder how many people on CISP don’t realise that they’re paying a higher rate for a slower service.
I raised this issue a while ago and thought that by now, there would have been some effort to better align the pricing or service quality.

made my choice to not go with them easy in Parkview.

below same address

Like what @Jan @Hanno Labuschagne when they did the article about Balwin fibre.

Its a bit more complicated, we were the first ISP active in Parkview and so we dealt directly with DFA.

We have been negotiating with DFA to align us with what Frogfoot pay but they refuse to. They are now aligning Parkview with Vumatel pricing and so that will be the option.

Also Openserve is deploying in Parkview as well and so we will probably look to actively switch customers over.

That's interesting. I'm in Parkview on Home-Connect on FrogFoot/DFA. I've seen OpenServe start the roll-out.
Was wondering what the story was.

To me, there is no immediate clear reason to switch from FF to OS.
The pricing is pretty much the same.
The uptime has improved to a point that is acceptable for a home connection.
If I moved directly to AH, I would look at the time and see any benefits if there were for IPv6, static, price, etc.
But I can’t see any at this time.

To me the only change that makes sense to me is if you are on one of the DFA direct ISP customers move for the price.
But then again why not just move from said ISP to another one that is running on FF and jut get the ONT changed out.
No heavy lifting, and immediate price reduction.
