Cool tech for women

It's cool for women because it can take selfies, comes in different colours and is "FUN". This article is so condescending, it's ridiculous.

To be fair, those comments were from the lady they gave the drone to.

Leandie outlined 4 other things that make the DJI Spark an excellent choice:

It is tiny so it’s easy to travel with and to handle – it literally fits in one hand.
The range of colours is amazing – us girls love colourful things so it makes the drone experience feel less boyish.
It’s so easy to control as you have three options to do so – on your phone through the App’s joysticks, through the actual joystick (FUN!) or with palm control, which is my favourite! You choose what you are comfortable with.
Palm control! I love the fact that us girls can now take a group selfie with the surroundings in shot without having to ask anyone for help. And I don’t even need the joystick, I can just use my palm and hands… Whaaaaaat???!

She is still a spokesperson/"ambassador" for the company. They should rethink how they market to women though. It's understandable they are trying to create a higher demand from women by differentiating their product, but this approach is pretty silly.

Yeah, I agreed with your original sentiment. Hopefully it's just this product that's designed specifically to appeal to "girlie" girls and there are different products / marketing approaches to appeal to other market segments.

It's what I would do anyway.

It's also just weird seeing an article like this when the rest of the world is being pc-ridiculous about this kind of gender-targeted marketing.

Their specific gender marketing is stupid. Taking a softer approach is not a bad idea, like appealing to a woman's creative side, like emphasizing the photographic advantages of the drone (thinking wide shot angles of the horizon, or capturing big events, etc). But instead, they go down the selfie road. Really? Maybe they are targeting all of Instagrams' fitness models?

The DJI Sparky for those days her hubby isn't up to the job :D

Or when he just does not know how to do the job...

And what if they were? Just because it doesn't appeal to you, doesn't make it stupid. I find the Axe adverts pretty dumb but I'm not going around telling Axe they're stupid...they're presumably having success with their approach given how long they've pursued that angle. They must be smarter than me.

Yeah, I always thought you more of a Terry Crews Old Spice guy.

I don't have a problem with it, females like different things, it's just that some guy from Google got fired for same thing that gets me.

Then, if that marketing works, that's great. However, I am pretty doubtful it does. Who would buy a drone to take selfies? It's a silly concept. They however managed to alienate me, and I am sure a lot of other women and I am their target market (a women that buys "cool tech" and has the money to do so). If I buy a drone, this make will be off my list just because of their stupid assumptions.

If you are offended by the Axe ads, by all means, be offended. I am not going to question your reasoning however as I don't understand your perspective.
