Has anyone tried this?

Many of my own maintenance tasks of the usual items are done as per the book. The others I do when I get the urge or when I suspect that some attention would be a wise move - like a serpentine belt (fan belt) or radiator hoses.

Just change the coolant every 2 years

You shouldn't need to change the coolant unless the system has been comprised. Under normal conditions its meant to run closed loop.
