Hi all,

Happy new year :). I'd just like some second opinions before heading off and buying a new PSU (Undecided).

My initial question is, is this PSU enough for my system.

I upgraded my Phenom 2 to a FX 6300. Along with that I purchased the Cooolermaster extreme 2 525. I'm guessing the true wattage is not 525 as it does not say "W" after the 525. Yes i'm on a tiny budget

My PC build consists of:

Regular mini atx motherboard (2 slots for ram).
FX 6300 CPU (95w)
Two 4gig sticks of Patriot memory DDR3 1333mhz.
1 Sata 7200rpm HDD.
1 LG DVD RW
2 125mm LED fans.
GTX 480 Non OC. Custom cooler attached - Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme Plus II
And obviously the accessories, KB, mouse and Xbox controller.

I'm considering getting the gtx 660 in the near future possibly.

Is this PSU sufficient for? Or is it too low, considering the high consumption from the gtx 480.

EDIT: Here is the review of the 475 watt version. http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-Extreme-2-475-W-Power-Supply-Review/1550/1

Thanks

If I check the spec here: http://www.coolermaster.com/powersupply/extreme2/extreme2-525/

It would seem not to be suitable for your requirements, the PSU only has "PCI-E 6+2 Pin x 1" connector. How many PCI-E connectors does your card require? 8pin + 6pin?

I would recommend this: http://www.prophecy.co.za/gigabyte-powerock-600w-power-supply-p-164997.html
or if you want to spend more or insist on the brand in particular:http://www.prophecy.co.za/coolermaster-550w-thunder-power-supply-unit-p-132905.html

Personally been using the gigabyte for close to 2 years without any problems.

EDIT: Been powering a 570gtx with the gigabyte, its the MSI lighting power edition (OC), it requires 2x6pin connectors.

Bummer

Should have paid a touch extra for a seasonic or Anstec.

I bought the Seasonic 650w 80% certified over xmas for R890.
And it's suitable for 2 GTX 660 2gb oc running sli.

That power supply cannot handle the load whatsoever, nevermind that it doesn't have enough PEG connectors either.
Like when you run Furmark, the card will consume like 320W on its own, meaning it will require a 30A 12V rail just for the graphics card!

I would recommend a single rail power supply for running that old high end graphics card, or otherwise get one with a high amp rating on its rail that is being used for the graphics card.

The minimum size & quality PSU that I would recommend is the XFX 550W ProSeries. Unfortunately this PSU was R700 last year, and now it's costing R829 at Wootware :(

It's a good psu, don't get me wrong.
Just don't see the point of spending more on a psu when you can get the top of the range for less.

That's true. I guess the R100 extra doesn't bother me :/ I just saw it's in stock too...damn.

Make sure it's at least 80+ Bronze rated and has a high amperage on the 12v rail.

I got the XFX 550 no complaints from my side! Powers my HD7950 seemlessly.
