Cooling for AV AMP

My AV amp is in a TV unit, with insufficient cooling and tends to heat up rather quickly. It hasn't shut down due to overheat yet, but I don't want it to get to this point (it's a Uber Expensive DENON).

I would like to mount some cooling fans in the back of the TV unit, with a suitable temp controller so that the fans only come on when the heat goes say about 40C.

I've looked on the NET and although I can easily build a temp controller (based on a LM 56 / LM 60 IC), it won't look as "finished" as an off the shelf product.

I did notice an older (2007) thread on this subject, but none of the fans mentioned in that thread exist anymore.

Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on the subject ?

Well, I guess your TV cabinet is fully closed?
Best thing to try is to make some ventilation holes.
Make a couple at the bottom of your cabinet and then some at the top, at the back of the cabinet that is.
This should allow hot air to escape and cooler air to get in again.

Just adding a fan will not help as it will just make a noise and circulate hot air around in the cabinet without actually cooling anything.

There is a product called the Antec Veris A/V Cooler - would this help? It's rather expensive for what it is, but it's a small price to pay for your high-end components... ;)

Cooling AV Equipment

Hello

I understand about the need to drill holes in the back of the cabinet. What I would like to do is mount fans at the back of the cabinet (blowing out on 1 side, and blowing in on other to create airflow) and use a temp controller, to only switch the fans on when the cabinet reaches a specific temp.

Then increase the RPM of the fans as the temp rises.

Products like the Antec Veris AV cooler run all the time - that's not what I want.

I would like to know if anyone has any experience with 12V computer fans - which are quietest, with good airflow etc.
