Cooling Off Period - 5 days hand-back

I took delivery of a new double cab on Thursday last week. Went away in it for the weekend and put 800km onto it. On Monday morning there is a bad knocking coming from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle has spent the past 2 days at the dealer and up to now they still cannot find what is knocking underneath.

We are not talking about a small rattle here - there is a permanent knock underneath the vehicle on all tar roads - I won;t even describe how loud it is on gravel.

Has anyone experienced having to hand a vehicle back in the 5 day cooling period in exchange for another one?

Looking for feedback. I cannot accept this vehicle if they can't resolve it!

What? stuff them you want a another new one and they had better sweeten your total displeasure with their crappy double cab and bad service or you will cancel and go elsewhere... don't accept no for an answer.

Noises bother me - and I'll do anything to find them.

After a small accident with my Hilux there was knocking on my hilux every now and then - and then it started getting more and more constant - took it to the dealer, private mechanics, panel beaters, etc. Eventually I learnt to live with it as I don't use the car much.

Then in April I went away for 7 days in the Hilux - it drove me insane - I eventually climbed under the vehicle, and found a heavy metal ring loose around the exhaust, after about an hour, I broke it off - sound gone.

:p Thats the way - make light of it, I'm sure they'll sort you out... the worst thing that could happen is if you'd allowed this to stress you out.

BTW: let them find the source of the noise on their own time - insist on a replacement not a repair, IMO you have an incredibly strong case for this.

OK good news - just visited the dealer. After putting 2 mechanics on it the whole day today they have eliminated the noise - I have just test driven to confirm. Turned out to be the brake pipes coming down from the booster which were too close to the firewall!

I am very relieved as I am loving the vehicle apart from the irritating knocking which has been present.

I think the whole service department is looking forward to me collecting the vehicle at 4:30 and not coming back until the first service!!

I'm afraid my loyalty towards Ford has been restored - the 3.0TDCI engine is an amazing piece of kit!

Hectic - at R370,000 for a diesel 4x4 - I'd hope they find the problem

Whats with car prices? around 30% of a decent flat.

It's crazy - and you don't get anywhere near the features that you do get in a german sedan for the same price....

Oh well.....

@XrapidX - Ford has the 2.5 and 3.0 Turbo Diesels.... Mazda has the 2.6 petrol and the 3.0 diesels from the Fords...

Great. Also, if they gave you another one there would be the risk of something else or cosmetic wrong with it. Better the devil you know.

Just me but I honestly don't see how people can pay that much for a bakkie. Most people barely even use the bin. Anything built on a bakkie chassis gives you the k@kkest ride and I don't care which bakkie it is.
