Ok I have investigated. The heatsink is there. It is black like the fan :o :o

PC running fine, but the thing is making a bit of a racket even when idling. And it is the CPU fan, cos when i put my finger on it to stop it, the noise also stops...You think i'll be ok?
 
Ok, this is what I have:

Aerocool Case with 20cm side fan, 12 cm front fan, ISonic 600W PSU with two fans, one that comes on if the load is high.

AMD 5200+ with stock heat sink and fan

XFX 8500GT with stock fan.

The problem: My system runs loud! The box is on the desk next to me and near to my bed. It is too loud to sleep at night with the PC on. I need to reduce the noise, but keep the cooling, and all at a reasonable price...


Your mission, should you choose to accept it is to help me cool my system and make it silent, with maximum of R500 to spend.

I have been looking at

antec 80mm TriCool Led - bLue : 3 speed switch (manual) , 80x80 for like R100

antec VCool with Blue LED + Extension duct - 3 level fan speed , for R150 for general cooling

and

Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu Led : aluminum+copper FHS + 92mm blue led for R280 bucks.

I want to turn the 20cm side panel fan off, cos it is really loud, so is the little fan on the 8500.

Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with these products?

I paid +-R2000 for my Aquagate when they were 1st released, all that I have had to replace is the fan on it (as they eventually burnout) and clean the radiator every couple of months due to dust build up. Other than that it has kept my Prescott 3.0E at a comfortable 36 degrees (under load in the summer months in DBN it reaches max 48 degrees)

Yikes. That is a bit out of my price range...
 
I've built a pc using that same case you have and I remember that the big side fan were loud but it's not an annoying noise. sounds like a strong constant wind (FAN). The cpu fan made a noise though but it was because the wire of the fan were touching the fan itself in the inside, so i've just fixed that.

Really? It is really loud here. My mate has a P4 3.4 in a plain case, with one exhaust fan and a big CPU cooler. That runs cool and when it is on you really cannot hear it at all. That is my target...
 
It runs pretty warm without the prop. so it is back on again :p

Thinking of installing anohter 12cm fan at the front and a 12cm exhaust at the back and removing the prop altogether...
 
Update: 25cm fan :off
8500GT with noisy stock fan : removed

My only noise now is coming from the PSU- an iSonic 600W.

Any recommendations for a PSU that is not noisy but that wont break the bank?

Running 5200+, 2GB RAM, Vista Ultimate, DVD-Writer, 1 HDD and will add an 8800GTS when I have saved up the cash for it and found some kind of quiet cooling for it cos i hear they run loud as well...I see they make the 8600GTS with a huge heatsink and no fan...Sounds tempting :)

Second that! I bought a AOpen Prima Power 700W PSU way back for R950 and I haven't regretted it. It's quiet and since I have 7 hard-drives, GF8000GTS and AMD XP 6000, which I didn't have originally, it saved me a bunch in the end simply because I didn't have to upgrade.

Also have AOpen 350W in another PC's that still going strong for about 4 years now. Greatest of all they're CHEAP! :)

The reviews of all AOpen's I've seen are positive also...

Also have a Enermax which is probably the best PSU brand I've ever owned but bit pricy.

The worst brand I've ever bought is Thermaltake, so STAY AWAY, even a Codegen (R400 PSU not bad but bit noisy) PSU outperformed that thing (not only in terms of noise/heat but also the fact that it didn't blow up right after the warranty period expired, which was 1year)

Hey dude - I'm sorry for the repeated broken products! The first panel being broken was literally 1 in 1000, and I wasn't in the office the day they sent the second panel so badly packaged (After they told me how it was packaged, I wasn't surprised that it was borked) But I've made sure that everyone knows we should package them the way I sent the third panel to you - I'm glad we got you sorted finally!
