Klerksdorp - The investigating officer in the Eugene Terre'Blanche murder case has apparently been arrested as well as promoted from captain to lieutenant-colonel - all within one week.

Tsletsi Mano, commanding officer of the serious violent crimes unit in the North West, was supposedly informed about this promotion on Tuesday.

The promotion comes after Mano and five other members of the serious violent crimes unit were arrested in Klerksdorp on Friday.

One of the arrested officers, Ismael Dawood, was promoted directly from constable to captain two years ago. The National Prosecuting Authority gave the order for their arrests.

Assault

Mano was arrested for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and Dawood is facing five similar charges.

These charges are the result of incidents where suspects were allegedly assaulted severely during questioning and while in police detention.

The six members of the unit appeared in court on Friday and were released on bail of R500 each. The case was postponed until June 8.

Hawks spokesperson Musa Zondi said on Tuesday: "It's none of your business. The cases against him are pending, so why should he be punished for something which he hasn't been found guilty of yet?

"I'm also not going to find out for you whether he was promoted or not, because I can't see what you would want to do with that information."

Zondi said earlier this week that nobody will be suspended.

Agreed.
In the old days, officers used to beat the cr@p out of suspected criminals for a confession.

I don't however condone severe assault, which seems to be the case here.

Ha ha, Mila. Friendly advice, don't engage me on the topic of Feminism. Your brain will have exploded when I'm done telling you what an evil farce the woman's right movement is in western societies. Just don't go there and I won't either.
