Cop shot in Kempton Park

Shot but not dead. Your image actually says so - apparently cops stopped a truck with different plates rear and front and upon opening the back six armed thugs shot at them.

A group of people shot and wounded a police officer and hijacked his official car in Kempton Park on Monday morning, Gauteng police said.

Two patrolling police officers instructed the driver of a truck parked in Albatross Street to open the back after noticing its number plates did not match, Major Mack Mngomezulu said.

The driver claimed he could not open it and called another person who, when he arrived, tried to convince the police not to open the truck.

After forcing the driver to open the truck, six people sitting in the back opened fire, injuring one of the officers in the lower body.

The Star reported that they shot through the truck's closed doors.

"The suspects and the truck driver jumped into the police bakkie and drove off with it for a few kilometres, where they hijacked a Honda Ballade and left the police bakkie," Mngomezulu said.

No arrests had been made and cases of attempted murder and hijacking were being investigated.

The injured officer was in a stable condition in hospital.

Happens daily. Just seems to be flavour of the week now because of the N3 one. Glad this is getting more coverage now and less of these racist bullshyte.

Surely the police should have thought to call for backup because reading this it would have stunk to high hell when the driver wouldn't open it up and having to call someone up to open.

The obviously noticed it was fishy, but I don't think they could have anticipated the surprise gunfire.

After hearing about this this morning, I was wondering if a new shipment of ak47 arrived last week.... How many ak47 are actually floating around sa? Seems like a **** load in recent months

Bring back the death penalty for murder and a minimum of 30 year for armed robbery turning into life if firearm fired. 10yrs min if in possession of a unlicensed firearm.
Life in prison should be just that.
This will be the only quick fix solution. We can with this in place improve policing over time.

We need to screen the applicants that wants to join the force and send them on extreme tactical courses.

This crime is becoming a much bigger and organized entity that the normal training is not covering anymore.

Our police are trained to contain and handle one or two at the most, but we see recent events that these criminals are highly trained and organised, either by neighbor countries or our own one.

We cant use the same tactics that we trained the officers ten twenty years ago.

Facing six to seven trained guys with AK47's is not a joke and the average police man will not be able to protect himself against them with a pistol.

We will need to train squads that can tackle this kind off crime wave we are seeing these days.

Usually it was a normal hijack with one or two criminals.

But these days the criminals have backup squads.
