OK, so here's the deal:
I live about 50 - 70 meters from my Telkom exchange.
I only use my Line for Data
I have a Cisco ATM module with fibre gbic.
Since the DSLAM connects via fibre, I see opportunity for a connection simplification.
Who do I need to speak to to get that last mile of copper disconnected, and for me to plug straight into the ATM switch?
I'll pay for the fiber, no probs.
I'll pay for IP transit to my ISP, no problems...

Do-able?
Unbe-*****inglevably expensive?

Whats my options?

The Sproggg

Try grab one of those techies that hang around the exchange, maybe they can tell what you need to do.

You'll pay for the fibre? really?

You'll pay the IP Transit?

You do know you're probably looking at much more than R10k pm just for that...

Why not try get Neotel to install fibre for you?

You obviously have no idea of Telkom's network infrastructure if you think this will work.

For starters - its probably not an ATM node. Telkom is busy moving all of their DSLAMs to metroE backhaul.

You'd also need a licence before Telkom would even consider letting you into their exchange with your own fibre.

Costs?
How did they install it?
how long did it take?
Where do you apply?

;)
