JOHANNESBURG – It appears the well-known Methodist Church in the Johannesburg CBD has been caught up in the police's latest crime prevention operations, and is currently being raided.

An iWitness said police officers and soldiers have been deployed in the area.

“The police and army are raiding the Methodist Church now.”

The police's Katlego Mogale has confirmed the operation.

“It is not limited to the church, its several places inside the CBD. It’s a stop and search, and crime prevention operation we’re embarking on within the CBD. There are several places identified where the operation is taking place.”

After the deployment of the army following a flare up of xenophobic violence across South Africa, the police have been raiding various hotspots.

These include hostels in Jeppestown and Alexandra, the CBDs of various provinces, and areas like Marikana.

Hundreds of illegal immigrants have been arrested in these operations, while drugs and weapons have also been seized.

Isnt that the church that holds all those refugees?

Pretty low blow to target that church. Isnt the first time too IIRC.

On the other hand if they find any guns/hard drugs they're welcome to confiscate it. Although one would think the church wouldn't allow any of that in there.
