Cops arrest oxygen thief!

An employee of the Eastern Cape health department has been arrested for allegedly stealing hospital oxygen cylinders, the department said on Friday.

Spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said the man, a driver, was arrested on Thursday night following a tipoff earlier in the week, the Sapa news agency reported.

The man had allegedly been stealing the cylinders from the Mthatha Hospital complex. He would appear in the local magistrate’s court on Friday.

Kupelo said oxygen supplies were vital for clinical procedures, including operations.
