Cape Town - Three police officers were arrested on Friday for allegedly accepting money from an accused in exchange for having the charges against her dropped. She later found out that they hadn't kept up their end of the deal.

The two police sergeants, aged 38 and 40, and a police clerk, 50, are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court once formally charged.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said the trio allegedly accepted money from an accused who was arrested along with her husband on October 26 in a stolen property case.

In exchange they allegedly said they would ensure that she was released from custody and the charge against her is dropped.

"After paying the money, the person was released and went to court the next day to make enquiries [about] why her husband was not released only to learn that the charge against her was never dropped," Traut said.

The accused approached Khayelitsha police on October 28 and reported what happened.

"At the completion of the investigation a warrant for the arrest of the members was issued," Traut said.

Disgusting. Corruption101: keep your end of the bargain once you have received the proceeds from your corrupt actions. I mean really. What has become of the corrupt in SA!!

Excellent!

There are many good SAPS members who do their best to make our country safer at great risk to their own lives.
Then there are the scum that ruin it for everyone and give their colleagues a bad name.

These 3 should be expelled from service and convicted with maximum sentences.
Unless there are definitive consequences for their actions we will never get rid of the corrupt.
