Bloemfontein - A former detective sergeant, 39, is expected to appear in the Hertzogville Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, after allegedly breaking into the offices of the detective branch in this Free State town last Friday night.

The suspect and an accomplice were arrested after someone allegedly saw them in the police offices and called the police out.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Thabo Litabe said the former policeman had a pending case of fraud against him.

“We believe he was searching for the docket in his fraud case. It was not there, however, as it is handled by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI).”
