Cops come under fire

TWO police officers were wounded when occupants of two cars that were parked on the side of the road opened fire on them
The incident took place outside Rustenburg in North West yesterday morning.

According to police, the incident happened at 2.30am.

Lieutenant Colonel Lesego Metsi said the officers were on their way to Photsaneng, responding to a case of house-breaking.

Metsi said the female officer was hit on the chin, mouth and forehead while her male colleague was hit on the right knee.

The thugs then sped off after the shooting and police found 16 spent rifle cartridges at the scene.

"We are not sure how many people are involved, they are still on the run and no arrests have been made," said Metsi.

The latest incident comes after Captain Neelavathi Naidu was shot dead and Lieutenant Colonel Thandi Mkhize was shot several times at the Rosebank police station on Monday.

Mkhize is still in a critical condition at the Milpark Hospital. The two were shot by David Kekana, who was a clerk responsible for managing firearms at the police station.

Kekana was undergoing disciplinary hearing for failing to do his job properly and was found guilty last week.

After shooting the two, Kekana turned the gun on himself and died on the scene.

The SA Police Union (Sapu) yesterday condemned the shooting of Naidu and Mkhize. "Sapu finds this violent attack unacceptable, and there is no justification for it. We want to state our dismay and anger at this act of cowardice," said Sapu general secretary Oscar Skommere.

The Rosebank incident was also condemned by Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa, who said the incident was an enormous tragedy.

Last week, national police commissioner General Bheki Cele called for an end to the continued killing of police officers. "The officers being killed are not only spouses, parents, siblings and children but also, importantly, they are from your community ... trying to keep you safe."

just another normal day of murder and mayhem in sunny SA

Start jailing criminals? Try and improve the pathetic 4% conviction rate.
Give death penalty to murderers?
That would be awesome :D They must first hire anyone with the skills and not just based on colour.

That's how we roll down here in deepest darkest africa...
