Johannesburg - The Johannesburg metro police department said two cops were arrested on Tuesday after they allegedly solicited a bribe.

The pair was arrested after they allegedly accepted a R1 500 bribe in Mayfair, said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

"They allegedly threatened a man to have his car impounded [because] he had unlawful number plates," said Minnaar.

The man had reportedly told the officers that he was in the process of having his plates changed but had not yet done so.

"The officers found the car parked in a driveway at a house where the man was working. They allegedly demanded cash, which he gave to them," said Minnaar.

The man, however, quickly reported the matter to the metro police department's internal affairs unit.

The metro police department's internal affairs officials arrived at the house and found the officers there.

They had the R1 500 in their possession.

"The officers were arrested right there," said Minnaar.

They were charged with bribery and corruption.

The pair are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court soon.

Good, that is blatantly soliciting bribes, not even pretending to pull people over anymore. Typical ANC encouraged tactics.

Justice, far too many people in the police force just want to throw their (considerable) weight around and collect bribes.

What happens to them? Wrist slap? Desk ( IF there are desks left) Duty? Nothing?
