Six police officers will appear in the Machadodorp Magistrate's Court on Friday for their alleged involvement in producing fake university, matric, driving academy and artisan qualifications, Mpumalanga police said.

Captain Leonard Hlathi said a 25-year-old man commissioned to produce the fake certificates would also appear. He was arrested on Thursday after a tip-off.

Hlathi said another 13 reservist police constables would be charged later in the week with fraud and forgery.
He said the 25-year-old tried to lock himself in his house in Emthonjeni township, near Machadodorp, when police arrived to arrest him.

When they got the door open, they found an array of computer hard drives, printers, pirated DVDs and CDs, computer programs and a device to print ATM bank cards.

Hlathi said he produced, among others, boilermaker certificates, civil engineering degrees, and diplomas.

He said the man charged R50 for a fake certified copy and R350 for an original, that most people opted for the copy.

"All the reserve constables who have tried to be enlisted as police officials with the fraudulent certificates, their future in the police is bleak, because we have no room for such people in the police service," said Hlathi.

Their copied certificates allegedly all contained the same serial number, raising questions about the way the documents were verified when the reservists were signed on, he said.

He probably does not have a record of who he sold the stuff too. Imagine the damage someone can do. And Imagine all the illeagals that have ID's now that tax payers have to fund.

Welcum to the New South Africa. Amandla - The power is finaly ours :D Moral of the story - A South African police man in a shack, no good :D

Every interview I have been to isn't a once-off encounter followed by a yes or no from the prospective employer. There are initial interviews, technical interviews ... If you say you have a degree in computer science, then you'll get quizzed in the technical interviews according to that level of skill. I would imagine that it's quite easy to pick up. Fake driving licenses however might be more difficult to pick out based on driving skill, because South Africans aren't renowned for their driving abilities  I've been driving for 6 years and have never been pulled over and had my license examined.

tell you what mate ... after what these supposed BeeEsSee's put together in the little tech check I had them write, I think the same might be true for IT at our varsities :(

You chaps miss the point. If is a affirmative race post, all what they want to see is your 'papers' and your face :D The rest is irrelevant. You are getting employed because of what you are and not what you know. Of course, you must have the papers to go with (just in case some white racist DA sucker asks for it to embarrass our people). This is where the police comes to help :D
