Cop's van stolen while they run after suspects

He was being sarcastic I think to avoid the inevitable moving of goalposts that'd ensue as soon as you start producing links.

I know he was, was backing up his sarcasm to show it can happen anywhere... And as much as I think this is a funny story, the fact that our cops are actually chasing suspects is quite heartening. Most of the cops I see around Durban could barely chase down a glazed donut.

Of course, I don't know what Mineer is wondering about, is it about whether it has happened somewhere else that (1) the Police left their vehicle to chase the suspect on foot, (2) the suspect was too fast for the Police to catch or (3) the police vehicle got stolen?

Which one is it Mineer?

Link is not exactly what I expected but will do. (just because R13.... intervened)
In fact am asking for a similar case - where the policeman leave the vehicle with the keys in the ignition and when they eventually come back, the vehicle is gone. In other words, the policeman have no idea who the suspects are.

Don't you watch movies? No cop has time to remove keys and lock doors when a suspect is being pursued.
The vehicle was stolen, how are the cops supposed to know the suspects? And let me guess if I provide a link to a similar situation you are going to argue that the police vehicle in the link must also be a bakkie?

And I forbid anyone to provide this guy with any links, do your own searching and find a similar incident.

But the link you provided shows an arrested man tooking his chance to escape. He was already arrested by the cops and bundled up in the police vehicle! The cops were meters away. If he got out of the police vehicle and tried to run away, he should have been re-arrested. His intention was not to take the vehicle but to get away.
In the South African incident the vehicle got stolen by a VERY brazen chap. He happened to walk past the police vehicle and saw the open door, keys in the ignition with no policeman around and decided to steal the vehicle. Clearly, he hasn't got any respect for the police. This is how I see it.
But yeah, neither one of us can find a better link. Yours is very near though. Will have to do.

Did the police leave their keys in the vehicle? What was the race of the suspect? Was it a bakkie?

By the way a cursory Google search shows at least two links where police vehicles are stolen after they leave keys in the ignition.

I wonder if the stone thrower had a drivers license? I hope so, its illegal to drive a vehicle without one .......

R13... I see were you are going with the race thing. I sort off expected that from you. Why you took so long? Kudos for holding back until post 35.
