Well after my efforts and eventual re-activation of Cubase LE5, I am going to seriously reconsider my position on copy protection, and legal software, after spending all of 50 minutes to get it installed. I am definitely going to look at alternative programs, preferably open source. I really do not have the time to waste, nor the inclination to repeat the exercise.

Welcome to our World!

DRM and copy protection do little or nothing to prevent piracy and only serve to frustrate legitimate users. :(

Ja. Hell. This oke comes in to one of my places of work last week and complains that the hardware we sold him does not work with his software. His software is, of course, cracked so the latest ver (which does support our h/w) does not support his crack. And why did he crack it? Because it is INCREDIBLY MORE DIFFICULT to legally pay for software than it is to pirate it. To pay for something, you need to buy in shop or download the software, scratch your head through the install process, enter some hectic obfuscated BS license code and then activate. And when you want to upgrade machines, your arse gets kicked by the publishers into a who new process. To pirate, click, search, download, install, save.

Best of all? .. It's free!!!

Steinberg have a long history of total disdain for their customers, not caring what impact their copy prevention efforts have on the software or their paying customers. They act like they're doing you a favour letting you pay for and use their products. I always recommend staying away from them.

There are some commercial products from companies with a better attitude, but in general copy protection is bound to bite you and cause downtime sooner or later. The only reliable fix is a patch to remove the silly nonsense. I'd like to see companies held liable for their copy protection costing their users time and money.

Well, I'll be double dammed if I install a Steinberg product again, not unless I am being paid a R1000.00 plus for doing so. If it was not for the church, I'd have just let it go and told them to use something else. As soon as I find something else, then I'll install it and move their projects/data to a more neutral format, then break the Steinberg install disks. Bugger Steinberg. Downloading Ubuntu Studio and if that works, then Bye-Bye MS Windows & Steinberg.

If you were on a Mac I'd recommend giving Logic Pro a try.
