Copy PVR recordings

Is it possible to copy recordings from the PVR to an external disk?

I'd like to keep the recordings of some of the 2012 Olympics hockey games.
 
There is no way to actually copy them but there are a few ways you can record them again on to something else.
 
You can't "copy" them at all,

best you can do is output over RCA or something and re-record it.. but if you want HD Recordings, then think again.
