Hi all,

In light of my 'Acer Laptops?' thread, it seems now that for my price range I must consider the possibility of getting a Core Duo Toshiba or HP laptop instead of a Core 2 Duo Acer laptop. I'm going to be taking the laptop to & from varsity for about three years, and what I've read about Acer's build quality I'm scared that it might not live up to it.

In your opinions, how much of a difference is there between a Core 2 Duo and Core Duo laptop (purely on a CPU perspective)? It will probably be between a Core Duo T2350 1.86Ghz 2MB L2 533FSB (in a machine something like this) and a Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66Ghz 2MB L2 667 FSB (in this Acer machine).

I've previously read quite a few reviews comparing the two CPUs and the conclusion I came to was that it would be silly to settle for Core Duo when the Core 2 Duo is available at similar prices, however it does seem like the Core 2 only has a slight performance advantage over the Core Duo and a bit of a battery life advantage too.

Thanks, appreciate the input!

God bless & kind regards,

Richard :)

The fact is that in SA, they are not available at the same price points.

The performance difference is minimal. my Core Duo 2ghz is still faster than a Core2 Duo 1.83Ghz.

So 5-10% max.

There are far more important things to look for in a notebook.

acer is one the biggest laptop okes in the world

i dont where you read their built quality is poor

i've sold many acer laptops and have had less than 5% of the ppl come back with problems

i've had more problems with hp (not that many)

acer is an awesome brand of laptop
