Hi,

They have a course on iOS mobile app development, summary below. I a bit concerned firstly because of the price (R7500 for 4 days) and not knowing what I actually get out of this (very vague on course info and certifications and accreditations), and the only way you access this course info is by a mail they sent. A colleague got it and that I would be interested. If you go to core.co.za, there is no info at all that even hints they do training. So naturally Im suspicious? :wtf:

The world is moving to mobile and the App phenomenon is growing explosively. In our MasterClass, you’ll learn how to use the major tools and APIs in the iPhone Software Development Kit and find out how they all fit together to build professional Apps. The course is delivered by international developers that have extensive experience in App creation and marketing - providing you with hands on App development experience so you can start building your own iPhone and iPod touch Apps with confidence. What's more? You'll get a jump-start on programming for the revolutionary iPad.

Hey.. have dealt with them before when purchasing a few macs about a year ago. They were the cheapest and everything was legit and above board.

If I am not mistaken the Core Group is the official partner (or whatever the word is) for apple in this country, so out of everyone I would think they would be the best bet for training, though that much cash for 4 days does seem expensive...

Ok, thanks for the info. I dont get it then, why no add they do training on their website? It's so plain and when I went there and didnt see anything about training etc...it kinda put me off. For being the official partner...they have gone about it the wrong way. Still not convinced Im going to get my moneys worth on this course?

If you've bought an Apple product in South Africa, you've dealt with Core :)

They own the iStores, etc on their retail side, and supply other resellers via their wholesale/distribution side.

If it sounds dodgy, that's because it is... but it's the best we get :/

If thats how much effort they put into marketing themselves makes you wonder how much effort they put into the actual course...

In my experience lynda.com (or lynda@thepiratebay if thats your thing) has some of the best training material out there for just about everything. The few training courses I have done in my life I would actually consider a waste compared to what I have taught myself through lynda, but a totally different field so I guess its different... but the same... sort of...

Yep, thats my concern. I did mail them, and still got vague replies back...which didnt help either...and waiting 5 days for a reply kinda put the nail in the coffin... Will check it out, thanks ;)

I would definitely suggest that you DON'T do that. You will have far better results spending your money elsewhere. I'm not saying anything is wrong with the course(i have no clue actually) - but nothing is worth that much for that short amount of time. There is a limit to how much you can actually learn in 4 days.

I just bought 2 big thick books off Amazon.co.uk for R400, and I guarantee the amount of knowledge in that type of material is more than you will get at a course. One thing that video tutorials or books cannot offer though is feedback to questions/problems. But once again in 4 days there is a limit to how many problems you will actually run into.

Plus this way you have material to look back on in a years time.

P.S. this is only my opinion, and is based on actually lecturing C# for 2 years of my life.

Hear hear. I attended tons of course in different languages (co. paid for) and I must be honest to say it was a waste of money. The company was doing it for their score or something.

The food is usually nice though at these training institutions.
