Core group complaint (Airpods)

Reply came back about what the problem is:

Please be advised that the tech confirmed the case is not broken, the case charges both AirPods. but the AirPods have microphone issues and it’s uneconomical to replace them both. Hence they were sent back.

Hmm, what's the chance that you got two sets of defective AirPods?

Airpods have decent quality control after all.

Methinks your replacements were refurbs not new

The mics were fine. Never had a day's problems with that. I was using the right one in calls days before I handed them in to the iStore.

What's the chance that both of my sets of Airpods' had/have mic problems? Sounds like the diagnostics Core are doing are getting things wrong.

Have you considered approaching Digicape? (not sure if they would be more helpful than Core but you never know)
Digicape basically IS Core.

ZA Online Store (the parent company which owns Core Computer Business ("Core Group")) owns a majority stake in Shock Proof, which owns Praysa Trade (aka Digicape). iStore is dragged in there, too, by being wholly owned by ZA Online Store and operated by Core Computer Business.

So if my iPhone 11, which I bought in the US, can't be fixed (battery replacement) by the iStore, there's little chance Digicape can?

The Real Repair Company (formerly Apple Doctor) will repair it for you (and use genuine parts)

I have severe doubts. Policies are ultimately dictated for pretty much everything Apple by ZA Online Store, as every bloody thing Apple in SA falls under them.

Looking through Core's portal and Digicape's stock file, neither sells batteries. A search for "battery" on Core just shows products that contain a battery, and you can search Digicape's site to see power banks and an external battery only.

I guess that's why we have the likes of WeFix (formally iFix).

Digicape and iStore have replaced iPhone batteries for me in the past.

They do have all sorts of T&C's on what they will repair though and the prices are eye-watering

Mmm, this is definitely a better message than what they've told me in the past - checking in the phone just said "Oh sorry this phone was not purchased in SA and we cannot book it in". At least if there's a page I can point at it and say "but your website says..."

Thanks for pointing it out!

OK got them back on Saturday - they're still doing exactly what they did. Left one doesn't charge/connect, right one is just fine (including the mic).

Tested them in a colleagues charging case - left one has the same problem, right one charges fine. My case charges his airpods (both sides) just fine, so I'm fairly sure at this point that it is the left Airpod.

Asked the iStore directly for tthe price of a replacement - R1987 for the left one. I can buy a fairly good set of new earbuds for that price (or just a bit more) with a new warranty. So I declined - will look at ordering just a left one from eBay and have it shipped to a US collleague and will buy something else in the meanwhile.

Update: got my 2nd hand left replacement Airpod. Took a bit of trouble to get the case and phone to accept it but after 24 hours in the case it started working.

Charges, connects and works perfectly, including the mics. Saved myself the purchase of a new set of Airpods - cost me R900 for the replacement.

Thanks for nothing Core!

Have you cleaned it properly?
