Hi all,

So I have a niggly problem that doesnt wanna go away, hoping u guys can help.
My SO's PC has a habit of randomly BSODing. It does this more and more frequently until I reset the BIOS to default settings. It then is fine for a few weeks, then it starts again.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

I've reinstalled Windoze, turned off all the Overclocks etc etc

BSOD is usually something to do with memory management

have you ran a memory diagnostic test like memtest86?

Power supply, memory, motherboard, gfx card, hard drive, sound card and usb devices and a power leak on the chassis can cause a bsod.

Yup, a while back, got errors on 1 stick, opened the box, saw the stick wasn't seated properly. Reseated and let is run in loop for 2 days, no errors.

Currently memtest is showing all is hunky dory. I am seeing threads of AVG and windows 7 not playing nice on Core i7's.

I think that may be my next port of call, will keep everyone posted.

The components themselves seem fine, I've swapped pretty much everything that lives in this box into my PC and it runs smoothly

Had the same problem a while back. Ran the windows 7 memory diagnostic. it pointed out a problem, and after removing the memory module i have never had a bsod again.

probably not related but just putting it out there :)
my i7 (first generation 920) also did the same in games, but during loading screens, eventually i found a ATK driver, on my motherboard page , not under drivers, but utilities (i ignored it as bloatware at first)
after installing it, *touch wood* my reboot hassles are gone

Disable "Automatically Restart" under System Settings > Advanced > Startup and recovery. Then next time it happens tell us or Google the error code at the top left will show one like this: IRQL_Not_Less_Than_or_Equal

Also have your memory tested with memtest.
