So I've just had my first and only experience with the Core service centre and thought I'd give some feedback.
My girlfriend bought herself a refurbished unibody macbook from Apple Australia through a friend that came out two weeks ago or so. When she got it, the first thing she did was open Photo Booth and find out that the iSight was broken. And what use is a Macbook if you can't use Photo Booth, right? And then it turned out that the Blueteeth were also broken. Anyway, she wasn't impressed with her first Apple experience, so we took it through to Core.
The one thing I was worried about, especially after the 702 thing, and some of the threads here, was that we might have an issue with the warranty (although from what I've read of bwana's comments there should never be an issue there). When the lady, Lindy, checked it in and looked up the serial number, the only thing she said was, "Ag, shame, you've only just bought it..." Ja. They booked it in and promised it would be ready 7 - 10 working days later. Today we picked it up, precisely 6 working days after we checked it in, with everything working, no scratches, all good.
So all in all, I'm glad to see that the international warranty for laptops does hold, and wasn't even questioned. And my girlfriend's stoked to have her computer back.
Although while I was there I watched a guy get quoted R31 000.00 to fix his older generation 17" Macbook Pro. Shame. He questioned the R3000.00 for the hard drive replacement fee... I would too.
But all in all I was quite impressed.
