Core's VAD status confirmed by Apple

In a letter to the resellers, apple confirms that Core is still the ONLY authorised apple distributor for the Southern Africa region, and that their responsibilities have not changed.

so much for change coming..
 
the only change coming is the amount of money that won't be left in your savings when buying ninteno/apple
 
Oh well - so I'll continue buying from Amazon a couple times a year. :o

Silly apple.
 
Why can't another business approach Apple and buy such status too. Surely it's not Core's fault.

What has your experience been like when buying via Amazon?
What have you bought?
Doesn't S.A import customs make you pay R1000s when it arrives in SA?
How much cheaper is it?

Amazon is great - buying from them is often cheaper for me than buying from Apple direct.

I've bought Powerbooks, iBooks, a Macbook Pro, ipods, colourmeters . . . through them. I generally only buy from them a couple times a year when I know I've got someone coming over to visit who's willing to carry them over for me.

As for how much cheaper - considerably.

What bwana means is that he probably doesn't pay customs duty or VAT on these items. He also doesn't have to pay shipping.
 
Although I have not seen this letter, it can be taken in many ways. As it stands now Core IS the only supplier to South Africa - but I highly doubt that this will be the case in 6 months.

Why?
Do you expect a new sole supplier or more competition?
What are the major issues with Core? - they aren't very popular on the forums...
I would really like to see Macs becoming a little more attainable in SA!
 
Nope, just want to have an idea to which states in the US I can have stuff delivered without paying tax.
 
Cool. Other than NY, I don't know anyone in either of those states. Looks like I might visit Chicago again in the summer - roundabout when I plan to upgrade to a MBP.

NY is a new one but I've also got family in Pa so its not an issue for me. :)

Yes I do, something may be in the works. Core have not been able to re-sign their sole agreement. As I have explained before on these forums, although they have managed to beat their sales targets set by Apple, I believe Apple may want better penetration of their brand in SA and Africa.

Loyal Apple fans as well as retailers selling Apple products have not been happy with Core and Core has lost a lot of key Employees.

I know of one company that purchased 80 Apple computers and 8 months later requested another quote for more products - Apple has yet to get back to them!!

Another customer contacted Core for a quote for 25 Ipods for a promotion. Core never even returned the call?

Core's pricing in SA has also been a huge problem.

Hopefully something positive transpires early 2009, but this remains speculation:D
 
dude... where are you getting your information from? There may be about 5 people in the country who would be privy to the details you are referring to, and I doubt one of them would be posting the information here??

Airline tickets (coach) are cheap from London to US. You shouldn't have a reason to fly there except for shopping. :)
