To my fellow myBB colleagues

Is there anyone that has been for a heart bypass surgery? Can you provide 1st hand insights into how you got into this situation , how you recovered? What measures you have in place to ensure its not needed again?

Is there anyone that has been at risk of needed one ( I suppose we all could be)
What change did you make ?
How do you manage this?

Any insights / contribution on the subject would be appreciated.

Reason for this : I'm asking because I was informed by my cardiologist several years ago that I am at risk if I continue my smoking and lazy routine. And recently a family member has needed one.

No first hand experience, however:

Uncle had it in March this year.
He was in ICU under heavy meds for about a week. Recovery wise:
The wounds on his legs where they took the veins healed quickly but he had to wear those anti clotting socks for about 2 months. The worse is the breast bone which is wired back together and needs a long time to fuse and heal again. That was his biggest complaint. The breast bone drove him up the walls. He's 100% again now and still catching on smoking and drinking :D

He had a quadruple bypass though following a heart attack.

What did you do about this situation?

Lifestyle changes
Stopped smoking with smoker Enders. Then started again. I'm smoking one /two a day only on weekdays.

Started exercising. On and off. Not consistent. I enjoy swimming every morning when I can make it to gym.

Adjusted diet. Vegetarian now.

Annual cardiologist checkups.

Sticking to prescribed meds.

Sounds pretty good. Why are you worried then? The genetic family history?

Was that a general diagnosis that would apply to most people or is there something specific that puts you uniquely at risk?

This was not a general diagnosis. It does not apply to all.
This was a specific diagnosis based on my medical history.

Right.
Is there any chance you can do a quick jog in the morning? Even a quick 10 minute run is better than nothing. Maybe an elliptical for working out at home? I'd really try and get the right exercise in and re-evaluate at the cardiologist.

You taking any statins?
