I am considering moving some of my unit trust funds to Coronation or Allan Gray. I have the option of switching to those funds on my current platform (with an extra ongoing fee), or I could sell it completely and move directly to the new fund's platform.

What features are available online (without having to call/contact them)?

Things like:
  • Registering, FICA and buying into a new fund from scratch
  • Add/Remove ad hoc amounts to your existing fund
  • See fund value on any specific day in the past, not just current
  • Performance graphs, etc
  • What is the current value you see? Is it close of business yesterday, or the day before?
  • Payouts back to your own bank account

How does the Coronation platform compare to the Allan Gray one?

Anything else I should consider if I change platforms?

Who are you currently with?

I can only speak on Allan Gray. They have a excellent online log in facility that can provide you with a number of statements and reports. Payouts are normally 3 days and you can see the current value when ever you choose. With unit trusts the current value is based off the unit price reported the previous day, so its actually the previous days value (which is standard practice). Fees are competitive too.

Switchs are free of charge to the best of my knowledge and you can preform adhocs when ever you wish.

Fund selection is limited thou. To about 20-25 funds(not only AG funds), but they are well know funds.

FICA and application process is standard.

I must say however their call centre and service standards are excellent.

Allan Gray has the best platform out there, once you on their platform, everything is online without sending forms or calling their call center.
You can do electronic collections, switch funds, sell, create new debit orders etc...

Coronation is not as slick, if their online experience was better, they'd see more business from me...

Allan Gray's online system is very efficient and slick. While I haven't used this specific feature, their Investment Platform can also be used in conjunction with Coronation (and other unit trusts for that matter) to make up for Coronation's lack of proper online platform:

Keep in mind that there are additional fees if that route is taken.

Thanks for the info.

I'll get a quote for what the costs will be for AG on the AIMS platform, but it seems it will be better to move directly to Allan Gray.
