Hi guys

Which company/package/software would you recommend for corporate protection, mainly against malware, spyware and viruses? The company in question is only 6 PCs and a server, but isn't expected to have massive growth any time soon.

Thanks!

Any reason it's better than Norton or Kaspersky? I need a little motivation here, though I'm not trying to sell anything in particular :p

Kaspersky is also good, Nortons is not in the same league as those two and has lower detection rates. I like ESET because it has some advanced features, like being able to pick up when someone is ARP spoofing on your network. I was well impressed with that.

The only thing about McAfee still in existence is the logo, Intel revamped the entire product and recently took brand ownership. Overall the product is rated between mid to high, though there are several suites, the more suitable variations are way too expensive.

Neither of those have as high detection rates as others already mentioned, so why would you prefer them?

Viruses need cpu cycles, Mcafee/Norton do an excellent job of making sure Windows has none to spare.

Now as much as I'm a fan of Avast, does it compete adequately (on a corporate level) with Eset, Norton or Kaspersky?

my very informal reply to a post elsewhere, rewrite a bit more formally for motivation....
look at ESET endpoint. it is a coporate solution.
min 5 licenses or more to start.
after that you can add individual units at prorata costs.
you can pick between 1 and 2 year licences.
and they do count the number of PCs the key is used on....

the way it works..
cheaper per license the more you run.
units added per prorata will expire on the same date as previous units. IE so if 6 months of other licenses remain then you only get 6 months.
On renewal all licensing is renewed sametime. No guessing when what units are due for renewals.

And if the licensing is due on say 11 May, then the renewal must be paid/applied for on the 11th, else you must run from PC to PC..... to input a new key. even if it is the next day.

endpoint can also be admin controlled from your own servers.
local support (offices in ctn)
you can request a quote online.
if licenses ordered and are not paid they block the key within 7 days until payment is received

:D

oh, yes - eset - happy user here for over a decade (caveat: home pc's) - great detection rates, small footprint, does not slow machine down, unobtrusive, easy to deal with (very responsive to email)

Norton and McAfee -

February 2015 AV-Comparatives chart:
CorpAV.jpg
100% detection for Bitdefender, F-Secure, Kaspersky, Symantec and Trend.
Bitdefender best on Performance, Sophos, Symantec and Trend rated next best at 5/6 for Performance.
I like Symantec and Kaspersky. They both perform well and protect. Haven't deployed ESET so cannot comment on that.

I've seen hopelessly infected networks running all of the AV's mentioned in this thread.

Sophos was the best I've ever used, and recently I'm quite liking webroot too although it can be a bit of a pain.

Infections usually get in when Antivirus is not properly configured and/or not maintained properly. Also where computers are not patched up to date.
