Corporate RICA

Hi there

We have a number of MTN sim cards we need to be RICA'd. They are to be used for R&D purposes as we design and develop wireless products.
We have no issues with providing documents to prove we're the owners of the SIM cards. However, it would be most convenient if I or my staff didn't have to take time off work to do this. I was most delighted to find a thread here on MyBB where someone claimed he was a RICA agent and all he needed was scanned documents (proof of rez and ID doc). That was in November 2010 however. I have tried to make contact with him/her without success. E-mail was not responded to and PM was ignored!

Is it possible to do it this way or was that just another posting on a forum that means nothing. I am really sorry but, since these SIM cards are used in a lab, surely we are entitled to a bit of a concession, in that we can submit the documents required and it can be done for us "online"

As a corporate there is usually a "responsible person" who has the SIM's RICA'ed in his/her name on behalf of that corporate body. They need to keep records of all SIM cards in possession of the corporate body and the users thereof.

There is only one legal route and that involves said person visiting a RICA agency with the required information in person.

RICA takes about 2 minutes provided the correct documentation is provided, including cellphone number and last four digits of SIM serial number. Multiple registrations on my system take about 20 seconds after the initial SIM is registered. So even if you have 30 SIM's they shouldn't be gone for more than one hour!

Ah, so that was just another bulls--- post on a forum... that explains a lot!

OK very well then I will have to get this done.... not much I can do.
What is needed then, for these sim cards belonging to a company?

1. Letter of authority or affidavit giving the representative (Juristic Person) permission to register the SIM's on behalf of the company.
2. Green bar-coded ID or Passport of representative.
3. Proof of address not older than 3 months.
4. Number of SIM and last four digits of serial number.

That's from the RICA manual.

5. I would also suggest the representative takes proof of his/her own address
6. The SIM cards to be RICA'ed.
7. Business Registration document or SARS Documents.

5 - 7 are really just to save a possibly wasted journey if your RICA agent is "unaccustomed" to corporate registration.

To fully comply with RICA the company representative needs to keep a record of the SIM cards. Just a small book listing the SIM's listing who has possession and if and when returned. A spreadsheet would do just as well of course.
