Ja, I must say they should get over it, things will change in time, just due to the demographics and whites leaving the country at such a rate.
Blacks will get more power when they go through university and start making it happen, it doesnt need to be rushed, that will just cause problems.

I'm sorry but must the white owner of a company just hand over his company to someone else because he's black? You can't force people to give up thyings. Especially if he has worked hard to get to where he is, of course they won't give up without a fight.
I agree you can't rush things. What they are trying to do is to force black people into positions because of the colour of their skin and not their qualification. Hiring someone who is not qualified for a job is not a very good idea, doesn't matter what colour his skin is. It's starts with education, educate the people and then encourage it, don't force it.
The idea behind BEE is good, but the way they are trying to implement it is just completely wrong.
Now just learning from what happened in a neightbouring country and please don't see this as a racist view. Black people were given a whole bunch of farms, or rather they just took them over. The idea behind something like this would be that they run the farms to sustain themselves, but what happens, everything on the farms die and all the food gets depleted. Now what, the people who took over the farm don't have a clue how to run one. What do they do once everything on the farm is dead? They are just back where they started and the previous owners ofthe farm also don't have anywhere to go.
Now I can see the same thing happening if you try to force people who don't know how to run a business into a position where they have to run a business.
I believe they need a few transplants as well as the current schooling and corruption does not leave much hope for the future. Just like the rest of Africa. What a shame!
Who would have thought the Dark Age, Renaissance , pile of revolutions and 2 World Wars would install a bit of cultural knowledge on how to grow an industry? If there is one thing to be said about local industry is tough **** if you can't make it, the detante should be over. Keep pressuring the people who are successful and they will simply packup, regardless of how naughty they are for not giving away shares. Most industry players remain here despite considerable risks out of some kind of emotion, I think its called patriotism.
pupa, It is a real pity you feel that way about SA's future. I have great hope for SA's future (More so every year actually). Fortunatly most of SA feels this way to judging for the business and consumer confidence indexes (And that other survey done last year) Hopefully schooling and corruption are improved, because you are correct that these are important facets that we need to get right and much more can be done. In fact Mbeki recently wrote about how corruption is ruining many African countries and that SA must take the lead in fighting this scourge.

Big mistakes in education are to follow overseas fads and to even consider lowering standards at traditionally excellent schools and universities.
That said considering the dismal state of schools intended for black people in the past the government is making a serious effort. They are putting a serious amount of the annual budget into education. Compare that to some first world countries that have been steadily destroying their education system by cutting funding. They may wake up one day and wonder how all these previously backward countries managed to overtake them.

Mbeki speaks good with "forked" tongue as little what he says or do is taken serious or is implemented or adhered to. He spends to much time overseas with international matters and forget he has a home front to protect and grow first! The locals feel more for Zuma and Yengeni it seems, maybe because they seen as martyrs like Madiba!

noxibox : True. It is interesting the amount of money we spend on education as a percentage of tac collection. It is much higher than most other countries (And our military spending is much lower). This is all very, very good, but money alone cannot solve the problem. But at least the intention is there
ajak : Saw that yesterday. I am glad we are not going the route of 12 new coal powered stations as was planned (which would double our CO2 emmisions, and place us in violation of a couple of treaties). Glad some sense has prevailed
pupa : You seriously cannot ever give credit where credit is due. Mbeki has precided over the dismisal of many people in Gov due to corruption. One of which was his deputy. Some have even been close friends. But they were still dismissed. Give some credit for once

JStike! Action speaks louder than words. Zuma was only temporarily suspended due to the rape case, his other cases is pending Yet he is in office?? I do not Blame Mbeki but his PPL he elected to work with him. Point is if Your Subordinates is thieves you are part and parcel of the problem or at least the incompetence of not handling the issues and condone it by maintaining and supporting them when caught. See the Yengeni and Zuma threads and please quote where Mbeki once took Zuma Yengeni and the others to task by mentioning them by name and denounced or deplored their actions?????

Almost blaming Parliament for their inability to do their work, these "laaities", who earn more than professors (more than R500000 a year), were appointed to high office by the ANC simply to co-opt them into the ruling elite lest they stray into Zuma's path.
Whatever the political reasons, many are far too young and inexperienced to do the job, and use the excuse of "lack of capacity" as though it is unrelated to their abilities.
The same goes for the South African Local Government Authority (Salga), the National Development Agency and the Umsobomvu Fund. Millions of rands have been wasted on these organisations -- their role being to build capacity -- when the very people running them lack the skills and competencies to carry out functions they are meant to perform.
