Hi,

I am in the porocess of introducing a new app but I have some questions around the amount of data the app would consume and or it's uses.

Is there a correlation between the amount of data the app would consume to the actual usage of the app? The reason I ask this is because I have been challenged on this point and while being quite defensive about it, I have to conceed that it is a fairly valid point.

Are there any SA studies of our networks and usage of apps on them that will help in answering this question or is it simply a matter of a "Field of dreams type scenario" where if you build it they will come?

Hope some of you may be able to help...

BTW - the app is one that will mainly inform the user of information from my company together with the occasional download of some PDF's and low res jpegs.

A correlation between the amount of data it would consume and its usage?

Not sure if I'm misunderstanding you here, but...
If people don't use it, it wouldn't use data.
If lots of people use it lots, it will use lots of data. Dependant on whether it caches those jpegs and PDFs or downloads them each time the user views them.

Maybe I was trying to create complexity where there isn't.

To simplify this I want to introduce an app but have we seen evidence of users actually not using an app to it's maximum potential due to exorbitant data costs when using SA mobile networks?

There are a number of variables that need to be answered to really understand the issue but I was hoping that there wold be some kind of topline view on this?

If it uses ridiculous data, people won't use it, unless they really need what you have to offer, and having wifi would be a benefit.

Be clever with your local caching, and ensure everything is as compressed as it can be.

Yes. Local caching is a must. Wish the Sterkinekor app used it.
