I seem to have a real problem with dowloading stuff from the net that doesnt come in the form of a torrent.

I have tried to download trial versions of Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 2008 Server, Virtual Box, on my PC and all of these downloads have finished, but then been unable to install because of corrupt or missing files.

On my PS3 it is the norm for downloads to become corrupt. If i leave something to download overnight, i would say 2/3 times i cant install because of corruption, even though the download finishes.

Im trying to work out why this would happen. I guess there could be a multitude of reasons, but the behaviour is similair on 2 different platforms (downloads finish, start installing, install fails because of corruption). The only thing thats common between the two is the wireless router, and iBurst.

Anyone have any similair problems before, and/or any insights into what could be causing this? It's immensely frustrating when you want to play around with some new tech or trial some games and you cant.

Thanks,
Mark

Also this problems frequency seems to scale with the size of the file. The bigger it is, the greater chance of corruption - or at least thats the impression i get.

Agreed Markd - Sounds like a SNR problem to me. Check you jitter rates etc.. on the iBurst website. Your signal may be bouncing off buildings and/or hills etc. before you receive it in which case corruption is more likely. I had a similar problem at a different physical location with iBurst. Currently I'm basically 100m from a tower and have never had a problem since. May be worth your while investing in an external antenna. iBurst will usually send a techie out at no charge to diagnose the cause of the problem, so it may be worth your while to give @rooi a pm to enquire.

maybe so. Surprised again as i dont believe i am too far away from the tower - 100 meters, although it is pretty high in the air I believe :P

Im guessing this problem would be much improved on a wired connection? It's a hectically frustrating issue. Though I dont seem to have a problem with torrents - its just a pitty that microsoft doesnt make their trial software torrentable.

well you could go and download the windows 2008 r2 trial from the microsoft site?

It's generally these trial ISO's that give me grief on my PC and the larger the file the worse the problem. Also tried Win7 Enterprise some time ago with no luck.

I experience the same thing on PS3 demos that are larger (1gb+).

I was wondering if it could maybe be a memory problem on my PC, but then i considered that i get the same issues on PS3 and started wondering if there was a connection.

I'm 500m from my closest tower (and in sight), and I found that an antenna made a huge difference - not in speed, but in data loss. I'd give that a try if I were you. Trees and what-not cause reflections more than we realise.
