a lot of my http downloads have not completly downloaded (file will show as complete even though the size isn't correct and thus be corrupt) the last couple of days, I'm using 512k WiMax and MWeb's 512k Uncapped / Unshapped account.

Has anyone else been having this issue?

Finally! I have been having this problem with http downloads since I started on Mweb 384 Uncapped and no-one seems know anything about it. I have a mate who also has this problem with the same type of mweb account. I have done some testing and it seems that there are a few common denominators: downloads from the akamai servers almost always fail; videos from the escapist fail very often and youtube used to fail until they started hosting locally. I seriously hope that someone can shed some light on this issue...

Thinking about it now, I have to quite often refresh a page in firefox as well as it will fail the first time I go to it, I just now tried to download MagicISO which is 1.3MB and it got to 1MB and said it was complete. Really annoying.

Happens even on good lines. My line is fairly stable & I'm using WebAfrica and yet sometimes 10mb+ downloads do that when using firefox. Just use a download manager & it should go away.

never happens to me on WA... often happens at a particular client on MWEB 384 uncapped... (only since changing to uncapped)

Yeah, I had the same on my 384kbps uncapped from Mweb.

I'm always using download managers for files larger than 5MB and then I never have the issue of where the files don't download completely.

I did have this on MWEB. I reported it to
the technicians and heard nothing.

I assumed it was something to do with
their failover from SEACOM. Shame it's
happening again.

Just reloaded my PC so didn't have a download manager installed as yet, installed now and downloading a 400MB file, so far its done 80MB without an issue. Kinda silly that we have to use download managers to download though.

I have been experienceing the same issues as mentioned above, with Cybersmart.
Today, Sunday morning, I can barely view these pages, let alone actually download something.
WTF is going on?

Somthing I found that works on broken downloads sometimes -

Move the broken downloaded file to another directory other than your download directory.

Start a new download of the same file and let it load about 1meg then pause the download.

Now move the new download to 3rd directory and move the original broken download file back into your download directory.

Resume the download and it should pick up from where it broke off , instead of having to start from scratch.

What download managers are you guys using? I have tried a couple but have had the same problem.

This is way too much effort.

It's so much easier to just download using a download manager right from the start.

I'm using FlashGot Firefox plugin to send the link(s) to the download managers.
FDM (Free Download Manager) and jDownloader are among the best download managers that you'll get and they're free! I've been using FDM for a couple of years now, but in Linux I have to use jDownloader (Java based app).

Sigh, went out for a bit and came back to a failed download :-/ Trying to download the new 3DMark Vantage (400MB) and doesn't want to continue after failing, using DownThemAll to manage my downloads.

Went to download Free Download Manager and had to click retry 3 times on the download page for it to finally start the download :s Atleast my usenet and torrent downloads always work, HTTP and FTP just seems crap.

alt21: DownThemAll is a piece of crap.

Uninstall it and install FlashGot plugin.

Then whenever you try to download something, you can let FlashGot send the link to FDM. You can also use FlashGot to send the YouTube video links to FDM to download :D
