Solar and coal power are equally corrupt — Mantashe

Last Tuesday, mineral resources and energy minister Gwede Mantashe told delegates at the Africa Energy Indaba in Cape Town that coal is here to stay for a long time.

Greenpeace Africa activists disrupted Mantashe’s keynote address at the Cape Town International Convention Centre conference.

Whistleblowers like Mr Mantashe should always be encouraged, so I thank him for putting the nation first as always. But if he has evidence of corruption in the renewable energy sector.... * thinks back to recent threads involving other individuals * ... I trust he is on his way to his local police station to lay charges and provide the available evidence.

He is 100% right though!
ANC = Corruption
VAT payments go to the ANC

Therefore
Any taxes incurred to purchase and install any renewable projects, are funding a corrupt entity!
Well done Gweezy our china - you and your ANC ilk have successfully made us all party to corruption :thumbsup:

Dont you just hate it when the are no clouds and the corrupt sun rays mess with your solar panels and gives you sub par sun?!

What are these people smoking in the ANC... F00k my George...

April maand, kom ons wees idiot/d00s is nog 16 dae weg Gwede...

Since when are the ANC guys in solar?

Have you heard how Eskom has been posting annual losses even though operating revenue increased over 200 percent?
ANC comrades need a new corruption revenue source.

“Coal corruption is fine. Corruption is everywhere, including in renewables, I can tell you that.”
“Corruption is individuals who are greedy and steal. You steal everywhere you work. It is not about coal.”
Translation:
"Dear South African citizens.
F**k all y'all.
Kind regards,
Gwede"

Is that because the ANC is also involved in renewables, Gwede?

Hope Mantashe goes and opens a criminal case at the local police station today.
The cops will be striking soon and I wouldn't want the ANC to give him an ultimatum to lay changes against... well members of the ANC.

To build a large coal power station is a mega-project. Mega-projects invariably fail in that they significantly breach their budget and timeframe estimates. To build the same amount of capacity with renewable (non-water) energy requires a great many smaller projects, most of which seem to be delivered within budget and on time.

The negative externalities associated with fossil fuels haven't/aren't been accurately accounted for, which if done more accurately, would make renewable energy even more affordable than coal energy.

He highlighted that Germany is reopening coal power stations after the conflict with Russia impacted its gas supply.
Not sure if it was even used though.
Germany is restarting another coal-fired reserve power plant next week as the country tries to save up its gas supplies for the coming winter.

Plants on the reserve only produce electricity when this is necessary to ensure grid stability.
And they also passed into law to close down coal by 2030 instead of 2038 in the North Rhine-Westphalia (odd writing that in English)
BERLIN, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Germany's cabinet on Wednesday approved a draft law to phase out coal-fired power plants in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia by 2030 instead of a previous date of 2038, part of Berlin's efforts to speed up the cutting of greenhouse emissions.
You can find a map of coal plants here with capacity, note this is Sep 2021:
It's the province bordering Belgium, Netherlands, capital Düsseldorf (the group citites there with Essen, Dortmund).

New coal in Germany is dead, the last one that came online is due to heavy campaigning by lobbyists, no chance of another one happening, isn't financially viable.

EDIT: better map, includes all of world's coal plants, note this is 2020, plans have changed quite a bit since then in most places

Yeah I doubt it very much Gwede.

Yes Solar stuff is corrupt without a doubt, but it doesn't have you and your kind in the mix with the cartels and the coal transport contracts.
+1
Gwede must think South African are fat fools.

Solar & Wind - 1000x less chance for theft and corruption because:
  • No fuel costs - no BEE middle men - Econ Oil
  • No RAF for colluding lawyers - Ronald Bobroff
  • No Fuel levy for PetroSA
  • No transport for fuel required - no hi grade coal being switched for stones, no damage to roads, no strikes
  • Minimal maintenance (simple product) - no exploding smoke stacks (Kusile)
  • Minimal construction - limited opportunities for construction mafia and strikes
  • Simple lego block type construction - no Chancellor house/Hitachi boilers
  • Not subject to Rand/Dollar import price parity fuel
  • Etc
Please Gwede, we are not fat fools, stop gaslighting us.
