Hi All

I drive a 2011 1.8 Corsa Utility Sport.
From the onset, I was rather disappointed with the performance of the vehicle.
Even unloaded, there is no real "zip" that I expected in paying top dollar for 1.8 when the 1.4 would have done the trick for me (taking garden refuse to the dump, loading the dog in back etc).

The bakkie has had its first service and is currently sitting on about 15000km.
The Chev dealer has checked it out for me after I complained about the performance but told me that everything is 100% within spec.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

Perhaps I should rather have bought the 1.7 Diesel?

Thanks

I had a 1.8 'Sport' and that's just how they are. They are very pap little bakkies in terms of "zip" but I still enjoyed mine and really enjoyed driving it. You could do things like putting on a free-flow exhaust and and and... but IMHO it's not worth it.
I dont know this for fact but I have a feeling they sacrificed a little on the KW side for touch more tourque... Well, that's what I always told myself, lol.

Thanks Friggs.
The bakkie is really useful and I keep reminding myself of that that when I am able to things that I would normally need to ask someone else to do for me, or pay to have it done.
Was just expecting a little more ito performance I guess.
Thinking of trading in and going for the 1.7 DTI. For what I hear they are a little quicker off the mark thanks to peak power being at around 1500rpm?
Still undecided though

The thing is... that is how it should be. A bakkie is a work horse, its supposed to have pull, not zip.

If I remember correctly the 1.4 is 75kw and the 1.8 is 79kw so you shouldn't expect it to be much faster.
The 1.8 has more torque however so when its loaded it will make quite a difference and it also has a lower compression ratio so it should last a bit longer than the 1.4.

I'm not very impressed with the "Made in Brazil" Opels they just aren't the same as the German ones.

I just bought the 1.8 club.
It is the same configuration as the sport, you just get cosmetic extras in the sport version, no engine difference.
It is zippy enough I found, doesnt go over 130kmh though, but loads of power in the lower end which is exactly why I got it as I need it for deliveries.
The amazing thing is it will do the 120kmh when fully loaded towing half a ton.

I drive a 2007 1.8 Sport with 205 000km on the clock, not a ball of fire when it comes to racing from robot to robot, it does pull very nice when fully loaded as max torque is at 2600rmp. Drove with a friend that has a 1.7TDI Sport and it felt slower all round compared to the 1.8, get a average consumption of 8.3L per 100km.

I have the chev corsa 1.4i 2010 model. Have 15" wheels on it and if I drive conservatory I get 6.7L / 100km. If I drive above speed limit I get 7.6L / 100km. Can get past 120km/h easily, and you can really feel the torque going up hill when some idiot behind you tries to overtake you and you put foot. I have 20 000 on the clock.

Zippy enough

Lol, somescrub.
Does not go over 130?
http://www.um.co.za/specifications/chevrolet_corsa_utility_1_8_sport_(2010).aspx shows it goes to 185km/h and does 0-100 in 10 seconds.
While that is not super fast, I would call the car zippy enough.
I can confirm that I have tested my 1.8 sport and it got to 190km/h on the clock very easily. 0-100km/h is definitely not slower than 10 seconds. This bakkie is fast enough for me but if you are looking for more performance mabe go for the SS.

1.8 is more of a torque motor for carrying cargo.

You will probably find the 1.4 feels nippier as it's more revvy and power based motor, but then when you put both of them against a hill you'll need to drop a gear on the 1.4 while you can simply cruise through it with the 1.8.

Fully loaded the 1.8 will also easily out pace the 1.4

This is by design.
