Firstly im new around here so please excuse me if im un the wrong section.
My corsa lite started pinging or pinking as some people describe it and i cant find the problem, stripped and rebuilt the engine, found evidence of pinging on the head and head gasket, but no reason for it.
Replaced MAF and crank sensor, checked timingbelt sprockets for wear but all are good condition.
I can only think of two reasons why it would ping, one is retarded time, which cannot be adjusted. Or running lean for which i cannot find a cause.
This problem started on a 70km trip.
Code scanner doesn't pick up any faults.
The car isnt fitted with a O2 sensor or a knock sensor on
Any help or advice will be much appreciated

check that the timing is correct
Check that it did not jump a tooth on the timing
Please say you use only 95 octane.

You retard your timing to get rid of pinging, what you are hearing is a result of pre-ignition, so if your timing is too far advanced or your fuel octane is too low, carbon build-up, you will experience pinging.

Were the timing marks all correct when you stripped the engine? Belt condition? Any play on the pulley's?

Did you check the injector related to where you saw evidence of pinging? Possibly a partial block on one or more of the injectors.

So le free bump, @TheChamp may be able to assist.
Totally not unfortunately, compression, pistons, pinging is not my thing. Electronics, electrical is more my stuff.

All the years I've had my Corsa, I have always believed that if you take care of the externals, coolant and lubricants, there should be no reason to even know what is happening inside the engine, everything will just work, so far I have been proven right.

So I am learning today.

Don't, it's a minefield, lol.

Spent a fair part of my youth building Mk1's and racing them. Wild cams, dual 40 Webers, custom inlets, double point Mallory Dizzies, hi pressure fuel, you spend a lot of time tracing the knock from jets to investing in expensive vernier cam gears... then you get Windsor garage to take a look and buy a barrel of 102 because that's all the engine needed.

Valve timing is 100 percent correct, pulleys and key ways are perfect , havent done 95 octane yet as the tank is almost full but i did add some octane booster (thinking i may have had a bad batch of 93) but the octane boost made no difference, pistons and combustion chambers are clean no carbon to be seen
Only thing i can think is its running to lean for some reason or the spark timing changed for some reason

timing marks were correct before stripping and evidence of pinging on all 4 cylinders, however more visible on the head and gasket rims than on the pistons

Other culprits can be the fuel relay, injectors, fuel pump pressure.
The corsa also had two head gasket options a thick and a thin one depending on the model. Make sure you didn't use the thin one when you were meant to use the thicker one.

Corsas and citi golfs ping like crazy on 93.
Just try 95

the cheap octane booster they sell is not really a octane booster .

this is a octane booster

NF Ultra Unleaded Race Fuel Concentrate

Thank you, i specifically requested the thick gasket, and got one with 3 notches, it measured about 1.2mm thick before fitment
Next stop i will see to find a pressure gauge for the fuel supply and try 95 octane, i cant really think that 4 injectors will fail simultaneously, rather a fuel supply problem

Well emptied the tank poured some 95 and no more ping, thank you for all the suggestions
