right so, googling gives me no help as on some sites they say you can and on other they say you can't.

my PSU currently uses one of those 2 point plugs with the hole at the top where you have likely found a 3rd pin.

now I want to know: is there any1 here that has used a normal 3-pin SA power cable as a replacement for this one?

I think this type of cable also has some kind of fuse/resistor inside it?

What PSU exactly?

I use a normal 3 pin red plug with the flat bit, which is also a y-cable, for my Corsair VX550. I never used the 2 pin cable that came with the PSU, which is sitting in my cable drawer with the rest of my million-and-one redundant cables.

it's the HX750

well I can't use the one you mention purely because reason I am trying to use a normal 3-pin SA plug is for saving space on a multiplug adapter.

doesn't the one you are using also have a fuse inside?

I honestly cannot tell you, since it is unmarked and plugged in atm, obviously, but I don't think it can be opened up anyway to check. I really doubt it has a fuse, which is anyway simply something designed to break instead of some more valuable part.

This is the cord that came with my PSU: http://www.longwell.com/display/accatadisplay.jsp?ac01=Europe&ac25=1&ac10=CEE%207%20VII&ac08=CEE%207%20VII&ac07=LP-33&ac12=H05VV-F&ac15=LS-60&ac13=IEC%2060320%20C13

No mention of anything special there.

Edit: I should note that mine is actually the Linetek version of that cord, but otherwise identical in part numbers.

think will have to query their support cause although I do think I should be able to use any power cable, I don't really want to take the chance.

thanx for the help Rudi.

There is no resistor or fuse inside that plug - it seems to be a standard type E plug (Schuko), used in parts of Europe

You can use a normal SA "kettle cord" PC power cable as a replacement...

If still unsure, pop off an e-mail to [email protected] and query if you can use the above standard SA cable ;)

ooo that email will help me lots, thanks howard.

hopefully I can simply use the SA cable which will save me a lot of space.

Guys, the cable can be swapped out for a standard 3 pin kettle cord. However, it would be easier to just cut off the existing European plug on that cable and install one of those Ellies Surge protective plugs. There is nothing special about the plug or the cable except the cables power rating.

It is a requirement of the SABS / government that all products ship with a plug and cord, most manufacturers don't want to spend the extra cash just on a South African plug and therefore ship the plug that would use an adapter - case in point: the cable with plug you received...
