COSATU ETOLL MARCH

How're the numbers looking Cool E? Last time I heard the count was around 200.

This is my problem with protest action; if (for whatever reason) there is a low turnout of people then the protest might be ignored. Or worse, it may be stated as proof that the protest is not the majority opinion.

True. But then, a protest march should not be used by government to gauge public opinion.
There's this thing called a referendum. The government should try it. It's powerful - it put them into power in the first place. Or is that what they are scared of?

... apparently not the most peaceful of marches. Couple of businesses in the CBD have had to close their doors and keep employees inside .
 
Okay a couple of points

1. Protesting will not solve anything. The Government know full well, how unhappy the public are about the tolls. Yet, they're hoping they can bully us into submission and just accept it and get on with life.

2. When will we hear the outcome of the 26th of November's court case? (Or did I miss it? )

Okay so then if they stop the e-tolls, then what?

Tear down the Gantries?

I honestly believe these tolls will never see a days use on the public. There is just too much opposition to it.

IMHO they can leave the gantries for two reasons. One - average speed trapping/enforcement. Two - a monument to remind governments of the future NOT to run roughshod over the wishes of their employers.

I was hoping for a full on march - where they pull the tolls down and burn them. But, in reality, a peaceful march is the better approach.

I would support the use of average speed trapping - that would be a good idea.
But as a monument - hmm, not so sure I want to see the gantries up, wasting space and plus, it just makes the place look untidy.

With the turnout of today's march being less than expected, I wonder if the government will call Cosatu's bluff?
 
Cosatu keeps shooting itself in the foot with these threats of violence and with adding all this other crap into the mix.

If you want the general public to support your marches and protests (which they also want), then assure them that there will be no violence and that the only issue you are addressing is the e-tolls.
 
Cosatu are just as idiotic as the current govt. The only reason they are marching against e-tolls is because they don't want to pay for e-tolls (unless of course the bosses there get a slice of the pie). It has nothing to do with marching against the corruption that got us into this situation in the first place.
