Cosatu: Nationalisation is a given

Wow, that sure is a turn-around from the usual garbage you spew...

Hey Dixie, I know you have been stalking me on my profile and sending me messages. I know you are bored out of your mind with your life but really, what exactly do you want from me?

My posts are not directed towards you but you continue to harass me just so that I can reply to your messages. Of course I can just ignore you, that would make you even more angry but I have decided to see what the deal is with you and why you keep following me on these forums like a crazy lonely woman with no lover at home.

Why don't you reply to the topic at hand instead of replying to my messages which were once again not directed towards you.

Do you simply want to start an argument with me? If you don't like my posts, add me to your ignore list and move on.

I can tell you now, the financial and business markets don't care in the slightest. Look at how the markets have reacted to the nationalisation talk. They haven't reacted in the slightest. In fact, they have been moving up. Mining in SA just doesn't matter anymore. Except in the minds of South Africans

As I've already stated, foreign investment is down 70% since 2009 in a global economic environment where there is tons of money flying around looking for decent yields. Regime uncertainty is wrecking SA's chances at prospering from this investment; nationalisation of any kind will just be a nail in the coffin.

:wtf: When they gouvernment announces it will start nationalising have a look at the markets.
At the moment the policy of the ANC is NO-Nationalising thus the investors etc etc are all happy and relaxed...

It doesn't matter?

I suggest you give this a read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mining_industry_of_South_Africa

South Africa accounted for 15% of the world's gold production in 2002 and 12% in 2005.

In 2005, 78% of the world's platinum was produced in South Africa, along with 39% of the world's palladium.

South Africa's production of chromium accounted for 39% of the world's total production in 2005.

South Africa is the world's third largest coal exporter, and much of the countries' coal is used for power production. (about ~40%)

Mining here is not only important to South Africa but to the rest of the world also.

They still wont care, because they Mining is not important to anyone anymore....
That and we already have nationalisation!!! We have had it for many, many years already

Those figures are a bit dated. Any newer figures floating around?

Nope. We might be one of the biggest miners of certain minerals (And rapidly declining), but that doesn't make it important. Steve Hofmeyer might be the worlds biggest selling afrikaans artist, but no one cares.
Mining used to account for a majority of SA's GDP. It has now receded into background noise

And what of the job losses if this nice little venture fails?

What do you think will happen to our electricity if coal mining drops?

Do you think only a few families are invested in mining? Where do you think institutional investors (pension funds, insurance companies, etc.) put our money? Millions of people in SA are invested in mining.

What South Africa needs is to establish a firm reputation of being incredibly pro-business.

Then what you will see is tremendoues growth, as investors look to escape the US inflationary environment, the EU/Euro fiasco, and China when its bubble bursts. We need to set ourselves up to take advantage of that and offer everyone the safe-haven they are looking for.

I mean in a time when people are getting out of the traditional 1st world centers, places like us, the new BRIC country should see increasing foreign investment, but they still see us as risky because of two main reasons, a lack of leadership and pro-business support from the government.

However, that is impossible to achieve when the government is seen to entertain ideas of nationalisation.

Very true, instead all they can think of is nationalisation and self enrichment.

Surely you're not suggesting that we need those foreign investors, you know the ones that get labeled imperialist, colonizers, etc. around here?

I want to know: Why is this the business of Cosatu OR the ANCYL? Neither of them are running the country, neither of them are a democratically elected body.

It's more a case of them testing the waters so that the ANC can still claim it ain't so

I wasn't addressing you Mr. Save-A-[fill in the blank]

And what do you think you are? (quickly skims your posts)

Hm, isn't this something, I also find you without a shadow of a doubt, a twat.

Calm down and focus on the issue at hand. You are not getting reward points for being a hero on these forums.
