Our business is providing intelligent offsite surveillance service to mission critical areas, which require instant reaction to security incidents. We transmit 5 second video clips (+/-250k each not more than 10 in an hour and often no action for hours) from the site being monitored to a remotely located control room. Onsite Intelligent Video Analytics software (installed on an server onsite) identifies a potential security alert, which is transmitted when identified to the remotely located control room in a form of a 5 sec video clip, where a controller makes final assessment whether the alert received requires response or not.

The amount of data used per site is small (less than 2GB per month – all local bandwidth – no international traffic at all).

We are currently using mainly the Telkom network for transmitting the 5 sec video clips but we are looking for alternative, more cost effective connectivity solution.

We would appreciate your advice regarding our options to set up the correct and cost effective connectivity solution for our business.

To view more details regarding our surveillance solution please views the (3-6 mins) videos below. That will give you better understanding of the business requirement.

Thanks for your reply ... reliability is important… no question about it.

Up until now we have been offering this remote surveillance solution to businesses.

We are now going to launch a house hold solution where price is a lot more of an issue and paying R800 per month for connectivity over and above the monitoring cost will make it too expensive.

What we are looking for R150-R200 solution per house hold. This will require less than 2GB of local bandwidth only. I am hoping that a potential volume of 50,000-100,000 homes, this will be attractive to some Internet Service Provider.

We would like to make sure that we connect with the right one though.

If you're only looking at the bigger cities, have a look at iBurst:

Their 'Basic 2+' package is 2GB + 2GB after hours for R137 per month including USB modem.

If you are going to be doing an installation on site you should probably include an antenna as well:

Thank you ginggs for your valuable input.

I am getting mixed repots about iBurst connection reliability.... what do you think?

Hi There,
iBurst is certainly an option. I would also have a look at what Neotel can offer as well, If there connectivity is better in an area than iBurst it gives your business some flexibility in ensuring reliability of service
