Hi!

Im in the market for a projector that i wish to use for watching tv and movies in my lounge. I however have a few conserns. I believe that the lamps have a short life and are quite expensive. Also what about light coming into the room, would it be difficult to use the projector if i cant completely seal off the room from light?

Can anyone clear this up for me a bit. Im not afraid to say im a complete newby to projectors. I do not wish to spend allot of money in the long run.

Any help would be great :)

We had an old projector (not that old, it was a data projector, which you can connect to your pc aswell) in our tv room(lounge). The room is quite bright, it showed perfect, I watched DBZ big screen every afternoon. At night you can clearly see the difference, I would recommend to get darker curtains for your lounge and make sure there's not that much light, but the light doesn't make it that bad. See if you can get a data projector, you can rig your ps2 and pc to it(it's quite fun). It's fun having a real home theatre system. Look in junkmail and so forth, you can get a data projector quite cheap, below R10000, just don't buy older than 5 years.
Check out these projectors aswell http://www.eshopper.co.za/?Task=Category&CategoryID=36708&HeadingText=Projectors
The thing you are talking about the lamps, varie's. Some are expensive and other's aren't, all around look for a projector with long lamp hours, you can get a clear picture of how it works by viewing the products at the above link. You can also contact David Hoffman at eshopper and ask him about projectors, maybe he can find one for you that suits your needs.

You can see by my answers I don't know that much about projector's, but let's say you go for the above projector. It has 3000 lamp hours. If you use it for 12 hours a day, it would work for 250 days, that's good. excellent. I'm not saying you should go for it, but I would say the one's for R5000 aint worth it. zerofocus, I think you will have more focus with a projector that costs a bit more :)
