Could my router be limiting my speed?

HI All

I have recently upgraded my adsl line from 4mb to 10mb, when doing a speed test i get the same 4mb speed i was getting.

I have logged several calls with Telkom they say that everything is 100% on their side.

The router I have is a TP-Link W8960N router, could this be the reason my speed is staying at 4mb?
It is relatively old and is on the latest firmware but i thought i would check before buying a new one.

What does your router say about sync speed, attenuation and SNR?

I know distance to exchange etc. can impact this but surely I should get a little more than i used to get?

Then the problem is on your ISP side, if your router is syncing at 10mb then the distance is not an issue.

OK so router is synched to the new line speed. I reckon its worth a shot. Those TP-LINK routers are not good anyway.

Telkom Internets prioritization option can limit the speed if it was previously enabled for 4Mbps, needs to be reset when upgrading to 10Mbps.

Did telkom phone to confirm that the upgrade was completed? sometimes there is a lag between the line upgrade and data uprade

Just spoke to them again and they confirm all is 100% line and package refelct 10mb on their side.
I'ts been like that since i upgraded 2 weeks ago.

try switch off and unplug your router for 10 minutes.

Hi MickZA, THANK YOU, after 2 weeks of struggling the prioritization was set to 4mb i changed it and boom 9.1mb on the speedtest.
Thank you so much i should have asked the gurus on here earlier !
