Could Windows 10 be free?

I think Microsoft is going to do what Adobe is doing with Creative Cloud.

Subscription based OS

Then there will be a surge in Windows 7 and 8 sales. :)

I want to pay and it's done, not a blerrie yearly renewal like those anti-virus thieves.

If the price is right that would be fine. Office 365 is the best deal on Earth, so they're great when done right. Adobe Creative Cloud Photography is also awesome.

They would never do that, that model would never make it in enterprise businesses.

I will actually go search for that article i read it in 2012 a Microsoft representative was doing a seminar at Stellies.

Then I had another guy mention this apparently to curp the faking of windows software.

Don't get me wrong I don't want it to be subscription based fml too many monthly expenses.

Truth be told MS doesn't really care about consumer piracy, they don't want you paying for pirated copies and getting scammed.

MS wants you to use Windows, they got people people to use the cloud aka Azure by giving away free Onedrive space with Office.

Pretty much what I said?

I'd also agree that paying even yearly for Windows isn't a bad thing, especially if its at a price I can agree with. That's effectively the same deal as Apple bringing out new versions of OS X every year, changing little, but charging $20 for the upgrade. I imagine regular licensing for retail copies will also still be a thing.

Although, if it ends up being a similar deal to Office 365 for multiple Windows 10 licenses, that's a game-changer.

OS X upgrades have been free for a while now. Apple no longer charges anything.

I know, but that's how it used to be (with the exception that you kept your OS X install even if you didn't upgrade). Apple subsidises their revenue they used to get from license upgrades through other subscription services, or just taking a small cut in their huge profit margins.

Considering that the Apple ecosystem usually sucks most people in and Yosemite looks really, really good, I think they can take the knock without worrying. I'd personally be considering OS X if I wasn't on Windows.
