It really is still CS 1.6 / source at the heart. It feels more like a mod than anything. Still crappy physics, and headshots from across the map that make you go :wtf:

But its CS, if they changed it drastically it would loose its appeal. If you enjoyed 1.6 / source, you will enjoy GO. Its the same game at the end of the day.

I think it might be a good idea to buy it on release, play and enjoy it for as long as posible... at least untill all the (populated) servers are stuck on the de_dust loop. xD
Can't wait!

hahahahaha dust loop. Sad times indeed :)

Ya, when i get DSL next month then i'll definitely give this a go.
I just read on the SAIX forums, they have a pickup group going on IRC (pickups are random 5v5 matches).

/server irc.shadowfire.org
/join #gopickup

you will have to register your nickname before joining the channel. (/nickserv register)

downloaded the beta over the weekend on preorder, and last night beta was converted into the full game.

CS:GO probably will fail badly when compared to BF3 (in my opinion), but i still like it.
the graphics is good, gameplay is still addictive.

and you have the option of playing offline against bots (which BF3 and MW lacks)

dont know how there can still be 50 000 people playing CS1.6 everyday on steam.
is that version free or what?

You honestly can't compare CS to BF3. COMPLETELY different games. The only thing they share in common is that they are both FPS. CS has a very long history and following. CS:GO will not fail, just as 1.6 has not 'failed' nor CS Source.

I remember playing this game is alpha release (original counterstrike), we used to monitor the web day in day out for updated releases to fix many bugs.
That was when we still had dial up and R7 weekends from telkom.

do you need a 'good' pc to play CS:1.6?

if i remeber correctly we use to play it on our work pc's that only had onboard graphics :wtf:

any idea what the top earning pc games of all times is?
with these kinds of followers, surely the CS-series of games should be right up there?

lol, you can run it on whatever half life 1 ran on.. like a Pentium 2 or something.

Yes the graphics are not the most pleasing, but the thing about CS, it wasn't about the graphics, it was purely gameplay and that is what made it last 12 years.

If you wanted to be good, you HAD to practise 3-4 times a week to even remotely compete with the best. Teamwork was vital, knowing angles, grenade tricks, recoil, which walls you can shoot through, learning to use sound to pin point exactly where the enemy is and more. I really hope CS:GO can capture these things to a certain degree and make this game competetive, cause source sure as hell didn't.

When I try and connect to a server, it loads for about 5-10 seconds and then kicks me back to the main menu. Any ideas?

Same thing was happening to me last night. When I try again then it connects. Very annoying.

I was using the server browser to try and connect to an IS server (was the only server with players) Ended up using the community quick play and I connected to an mweb server first time.
