Okay, bear with me... it has been 5-6 years since I last bought a game...

I'm looking at getting this game but have no clue as how to get hold of it, I have looked at all the shopping centres and can't seem to find it in hard copy.

I know you can download it via Steam, but is this the only way?
I don't know what the license says and if one can get it second hand somewhere?

What other options do I have to get hold of it?

The reason I want it is to just fool around every now and then on Linux, it runs perfectly via Wine...

Ask someone who has it to make a backup of the game to DVD. You can then buy the game via steam and install CS via the back up disk.

Yes it can take a while to download. If you do find 2nd hand disks it may not help since they will be old and already registered (not transferable)

Buy it online. It's often on special with steam.

I don't know about running it on Linux though.

The running on Linux is not the problem, it is getting it that is...

Thank you for clearing up a few things, so it cannot be sold second hand and there are no stores that I know of that sells the hard copies, sometimes you get them dirt cheap if you look in the right places, but alas.

So Steam it is then, thanks for the input.

You can get it second hand if someone wants to sell you their account, but why buy it 2nd hand when it is going to $9 on steam... Get the data files from someone as there are still a lot of people playing it.
Even if you get a discs, you still have to download all the updates and by now, I think you will download almost the complete game anyway. ;)

It isn't transferable. Also your other games are usually on the same Steam account.

If you have a copy of the game + key, you can also try reclaiming it, but it's a hassle.

i live in jhb.

you can come copy the game for me and just buy your acount without downloading the data files.

easy peasy

Dude grab a WA prepaid account, configure your firewall to only allow WA IP on 27030 and download it overnight from steam. Won't cost you a cent since you can still use the 1GB cap afterwards.
