World leaders reacted with horror after a pro-Trump mob assaulted American democracy and the peaceful transfer of power by storming the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, as lawmakers were attempting to certify President-elect Biden's victory in November.

Why it matters: The U.S. government is typically a leading voice in condemning political violence all over the world.

Trump incited the storming of the Capitol. Racist policing enabled it

At every moment of the Trumpist assault on the U.S. Capitol, differences have been glaringly visible between how these overwhelmingly white, far-right people have been treated and how protesters for racial justice have been treated over the past year by the very same law enforcement agencies. From the fact that the Capitol prepared for Black Lives Matter protests with ranks of heavily armed officers while claiming to have been simply caught unawares by an assault on the Capitol that had been telegraphed in advance, to the violence meted out to racial justice protesters while members of the crowd that violently stormed the Capitol were “gently walked … down the stairs,” as CNN reported, it’s impossible not to see. (If you’re honest.)

But the moments keep piling up—on video for all of us to see—showing just how welcoming the police were to this insurrectionist mob. Like this one:

Major US business group urges Pence, cabinet to remove Trump

The president of the National Association of Manufacturers, which represents 14,000 companies, said Vice President Pence and the cabinet should consider removing Trump from office.

The head of a significant United States business group that represents 14,000 companies including Exxon Mobil Corp, Pfizer Inc and Toyota Motor Corp urged senior US officials to consider removing President Donald Trump from office after supporters of the outgoing president stormed the US Capitol.

National Association of Manufacturers President and CEO Jay Timmons said Trump “incited violence in an attempt to retain power, and any elected leader defending him is violating their oath to the Constitution and rejecting democracy in favour of anarchy … Vice President [Mike] Pence, who was evacuated from the Capitol, should seriously consider working with the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to preserve democracy.”

President's coup deserves prosecution: Pulitzer Prize-winning Trump biographer

Here is the message Republicans must take from the violent mob that Donald Trump sent to attack our Capitol Wednesday in his failed coup attempt:

Break completely with this crazy, seditious wannabe dictator now. Hold him to account, preferably by prompt removal from office via the 25th Amendment or a rapid impeachment and conviction. He must be arrested and criminally prosecuted for trying to overthrow our government, a crime for which we have executed more than a few traitors.

The consequences of Republican leaders failing to totally denounce Trump and back up their denunciations with action? Trump and his dangerous and armed mob will become a millstone around your collective necks. And your failings will brand you as traitors unfit to hold public office.

For the Josh Hawleys, Ted Cruzes, Tom Cottons and other seditious Republican senators and representatives, any further defense of Trump should mark not just the end of your political careers, but the end of your acceptance in civilized society.

U.S. Trade Group Asks VP Pence to ‘Seriously Consider’ Invoking 25th Amendment to Remove Trump – NBC New York
The head of the National Association of Manufacturers, a group representing 14,000 companies in the U.S., on Wednesday called on Vice President Mike Pence to "seriously consider" invoking the 25th Amendment of the Constitution to remove President Donald Trump from office.
The 25th Amendment states that the vice president can become acting president if he and a majority of the Cabinet declare the president no longer able to hold office. However, if the president contests that declaration, it takes two-thirds of the House and Senate to override and remove him.

By now you have seen and/or heard about the attempted coup d’etat taking place in our nation’s Capitol. The conspiracy-laden, evidence-free, faketriot bullshit of the last decade from the right-wing and far-right wing of the country has finally been exposed for what it is: a fascistic mob of the few, who want to reverse course on our country’s Constitution to become some kind of pedestrian oligarchy.

The images are shocking but not surprising. The fact that Black Lives Matter protests, which called for the defunding and redistribution of law enforcement funds, racial justice, and reform were met with a full military presence while this band of terrorists who have been calling for the overthrow of our democracy was met with non-riot geared police, made this possible. The Republican Party has hundreds of representatives who have been willing to go along with the charade that there are real questions concerning the results of the 2020 elections. There aren’t. The president of the United States has repeatedly called our democracy “rigged,” and has called for people to stop the certification of votes.

That’s what is happening today. It could be seen as far back as 2015.

Let’s first point out that news outlets continue to say things like “no one was prepared for this,” and “no one saw this coming.” A lot of people did. In fact, they knew this was the real issue of blood in the streets, not peaceful Black Lives Matter protests.

This is not a protest...This is a coup/insurrection. There is a mayor difference...
This is the day the US lost all moral authority if it ever held.
Well played Donald managed to destroy a great country in 4 years.
The Don is a symptom not a cause, The US should count itself lucky that a conman only interested in boosting his own ego won the presidency instead of somebody with his playbook intending on a massive power grab

Some Cabinet members holding preliminary talks about invoking 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office

Some Cabinet members are holding preliminary discussions about invoking the 25th Amendment to force President Trump’s removal from office, a GOP source said.

The discussions are ongoing but it’s unclear if there will be enough Cabinet members to result in Trump’s removal.

The conversations have reached the Hill where some senators have been made aware of the discussions, the source said.

House Judiciary Committee Democrats urge Pence to invoke 25th Amendment

Members of the House Judiciary Committee are urging Vice President Mike Pence and members from President Trump’s Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution and remove Trump from office, according to a statement released Wednesday night by the committee members.

“Even in his video announcement this afternoon, President Trump revealed that he is not mentally sound and is still unable to process and accept the results of the 2020 election. President Trump’s willingness to incite violence and social unrest to overturn the election results by force clearly meet this standard. So too are his recent Tweets, which Twitter has since deleted, saying the election was ‘stolen’ and that today’s riots ‘are the things and events that happen,’” the members said in the statement.
CNN reported earlier that some Cabinet members are holding preliminary discussions about invoking the 25th Amendment, according to a well placed GOP source.

In today's late night session many Rep and Dem senators used their few minutes at the mic to rebuke the Orange Snollygoster for the coup attempt, and received applause from both sides of the isle.

Pence had a very different demeanor, one that must have pissssed-off the Dotard.

Barack Obama Says Trump ‘Incited’ Violence At Capitol With His Baseless Lies

The former president lambasted his successor for his role in Wednesday’s riot, calling Trump supporters’ violence “a moment of great dishonor and shame.”
Former President Barack Obama minced no words on Wednesday in his repudiation of Donald Trump and his role in the riot at the U.S. Capitol.

In a statement, Obama said the outgoing president had “incited” the violence with his torrent of lies about the presidential election.

“History will rightly remember today’s violence at the Capitol, incited by a sitting president who has continued to baselessly lie about the outcome of a lawful election, as a moment of great dishonor and shame for our nation,” the statement read.

Trump has repeatedly dismissed the November election results as fraudulent. Earlier on Wednesday, he told supporters that he would “never concede” and encouraged them to march on the Capitol building, where legislators had gathered to formally certify President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

Hundreds of Trump’s supporters later violently stormed the Capitol, forcing lawmakers to evacuate.
