After 15 months in proceedings, the US District Court ruled in afvor of Blizzard in its lawsuit against the developer of popular World of Warcraft bot program, MMOGlider.

US District Court Judge David Campbell ruled that MMOGlider broke the terms of World of Warcraft EULA (End User License Agreement) that players must agree to in order to play the game.

MMoGlider software was created by of MDY founder Michael Donnelly. The bot program automates most of WoW's repetitive tasks, such as killing monsters and scavenging loot. It is estimated that MMOGlider sold 100,000 copies for $25 each.

Blizzard has been awarded $6 million in damages, but they might appeal the ruling and ask for doubling or tripling that amount. The case is due to go to court again in January 2009 to decide whether MDY broke the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act and whether Mr Donnelly will have to pay the damages from his own pocket.

Ahh bot's we have one in our realm in particular we are quite fond of, she helps us quite well by killing mobs we tag, then when we are bored we farm her for honour :P

Also for fun we get the bot trashed by mobs till she has effectively 0 durability watching her farm then is quite amusing ;)

On a serious note, doesn't anyone see anything wrong with this judgement, aside from the issue of what effect this has in your game.
 
No, when he started playing wow, he entered into a ToS, he broke and then profited off his breach of the ToS. Simply, he got caught and has to pay the piper. Same way I feel rocks for guys whose accounts get banned for botting

What do you see?

I see nothing wrong with that judgment. And it's about time the guys cheating with bots have to stop as they have got an unfair advantage.
 
Talking about bots! I had the very costly experience last night of being victim of some sort of bot.

I was asked by one of my friends to get some materials from his horde toon to his ally toon. So we met up in Booty Bay and prepared ourselves infront of the auction house there (BTW, the population at +-17:00 on Eonar is decimal). The first transfer we tried was Primal Air, we put 10 on for 1bronze, so as he gives me the sign over TeamSpeak, I refresh and buyout....or that was the way it normally worked. This time round however, when I click buyout (like 2 seconds after the auction was created) it says Auction does not exists. So we tried another primal, and exactly the same happened! We then tried a few bars and other high end merchandise, and it all worked perfectly according to plan. Just for the fun of it we put one more primal on, and it was bought out within a second or so :(

Kinda expensive outing for us, real pain in the @ss. Anybody actually know of a app like this?
 
auto programs working with bottom feeder will pick up bargains instantaneously.

the Gold seller's way of doing it is to get you to put a worthless item on auction for a silly amount. they then buyout your piece linen cloth for 5000g. (No I don't buy gold ... I do mining & skinning ^_^)

That's the same way to get cash between horde / alliance. Then use that cash to buy out the materials on the AH listed by the person who sent you the cash to ensure nobody else takes it.
